Acton Academy Madison West is a 4K-6 private school located in Madison, WI that provides a truly unique and revolutionary “disruptive” educational model and is affiliated with the Acton Academy Network.

We are seeking a play facilitator and outdoor educator to supervise and guide children ages 4 - 7 in outdoor “Spark Play.” Spark Play is inspired by Anji Play and involves children engaging in planning, playing with large and small loose parts, and reflecting on their experience. In addition, the Spark Play guide will facilitate similar open-ended making in our extensively equipped makerspace weekly, as well as weekly outdoor excursions to nearby parks and the UW Arboretum.

The Spark Play guide will also supervise unstructured outdoor play times for both the Spark and Discovery Studios (the elementary studio), as well as extended day time where opportunities abound for children to explore outside and engage in play.

At Acton Academy Madison West, we emphasize Socratic guidance as opposed to traditional teaching, mixed-aged classrooms with a self-paced curriculum as opposed to grade-levels, and open-ended play that facilitates the 4Cs: creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.

Within the boundaries of safe guardrails, students are empowered to be in the driver seat of their learning in an environment that is truly theirs. Moreover, our goal is to support each student on Hero’s Journeys as they seek to find callings and change the world.

We are seeking a Spark Guide who is passionate about guiding children on their independent journey of life-long learning, and who possesses depth, love, and commitment to our methodology.

**Responsibilities of Spark Play Guide**:

- Be on time and prepared every day
- Prepare the Spark Play environment and recommend new materials over time
- Craft meaningful Spark Play “launches” (circle time) utilizing powerful questions
- Observe and document children’s activities during Spark Play
- Facilitate the children’s reflection following Spark Play
- Intervene mínimally, if at all, in children’s play
- Support children in clean-up after Spark Play and in their Studio
- Lead a mindfulness exercise and read-aloud at the end of the day
- Supervise a small group of children during extended day (after school)
- Learn Acton systems and Socratic guiding methods (we will provide training)
- Lead at least weekly outdoor excursions for exploration and play
- Lead at least weekly open-ended making sessions in our makerspace
- Inspire our heroes to explore, be curious, and take ownership of their learning
- Remain Socratic by never answering a question and offering powerful questions and choices instead

**Job Type**:Part-time

**Required experience**:Experience working with children as a coach, camp counselor, or educator is a must. Bachelor's degree preferred. Need to be adept with technology and using Google systems to document and present learnings.

Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
