**Hours**:7:45am - 12:15pm, Monday - Friday

Acton Academy Madison West is a 4K-6th grade private school located in Madison, WI that provides a truly unique and revolutionary “disruptive” educational model and is affiliated with the Acton Academy Network.

We are seeking a Montessori Guide to lead the morning work cycle in our Spark Studio (ages 4 - 7). The Montessori Guide will be responsible for preparing the studio environment to facilitate independence, providing lessons, and helping heroes track their progress and learning utilizing mastery checklists. The Montessori Guide will also be responsible for incorporating new works each session according to theme, and creating new work, or supplementing existing works, to extend sensorial, practical life, math, language and science and culture learnings.

The Montessori Guide may also provide lessons or resources to Discovery (elementary-aged) heroes from time to time to support their understanding of concepts more deeply. There will also be at least one circle time that the Montessori Guide will lead with a read-aloud, social-emotional role play, or mindfulness activity.

At Acton Academy Madison West, we believe questions are more powerful than answers. We emphasize Socratic guidance as opposed to traditional teaching, mixed-aged classrooms with a self-paced curriculum as opposed to grade-levels, and open-ended play that facilitates the 4Cs: creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.

Within the boundaries of safe guardrails, students are empowered to be in the driver seat of their learning in an environment that is truly theirs. Moreover, our goal is to support each student on Hero’s Journeys as they seek to find callings and change the world.

We are seeking a Montessori Guide who is passionate about guiding children on their independent journey of life-long learning, and who possesses depth, love, and commitment to our methodology.

**Responsibilities of Montessori Guide**:

- Be on time and prepared every day
- Prepare the Spark Studio environment and recommend or create new materials that can provide extended learning opportunities for children
- Incorporate a few new materials each session according to theme
- Craft meaningful Spark Play “launches” (circle time) utilizing powerful questions
- Provide Montessori lessons utilizing sensorial, practical life, math, language, and science and culture materials
- Help children to track their learning using mastery checklists
- Support children in clean-up in their Studio
- Incorporate “grace and courtesy”
- Learn Acton systems and Socratic guiding methods (we will provide training)
- Inspire our heroes to explore, be curious, and take ownership of their learning
- Remain Socratic by never answering a question and offering powerful questions and choices instead
- Help us deliver on our promises to Acton heroes and parents

Our guides serve as pillars of our learning environment and receive competitive pay, commensurate with experience.

**Preferred experience**:Past Montessori teaching experience is preferred. A Montessori certification is a plus. We may consider training an assistant guide who demonstrates a strong interest in Acton and Montessori methods.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 - 20 per week
