Director of Engineering

**Overview**:
The Director of Engineering at Valerian Technology will be a pivotal leadership role, responsible for orchestrating the technical strategy, guiding our engineering teams, and enhancing our product development lifecycle. This individual will possess a unique blend of technical depth, strategic thinking, and leadership acumen, capable of driving technological excellence and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration across all levels of the engineering organization.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Strategic Leadership and Vision**: Craft and execute a coherent technical strategy that aligns with the company's business goals. Lead the engineering department in the implementation of strategic initiatives, driving technological innovation and ensuring the development of scalable, secure, and high-quality software solutions.
- **Team Development and Mentorship**: Oversee and support the professional growth of Fractional CTOs, Senior and Principal Engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Ensure the engineering team is motivated, engaged, and equipped with the skills and tools necessary to achieve their best work.
- **Technical Excellence and Innovation**: Maintain and advance a deep understanding of the latest technology trends and best practices. Encourage the adoption of innovative technologies and methodologies to solve complex problems and enhance product development and performance.
- **Collaboration and Communication**: Act as a linchpin between the engineering team and other departments, ensuring clear communication and cohesive collaboration. Work closely with Product Management, Sales, and Customer Success to align technical developments with market demands and customer needs.
- **Operational Efficiency**: Optimize engineering processes and practices to improve efficiency and quality. Implement metrics and KPIs to measure performance and progress towards departmental and company objectives.

**Qualifications**:

- Proven leadership experience in a high-level engineering role, such as VP of Engineering, Director of Engineering, or a similar position, with a track record of leading successful teams.
- Extensive technical expertise, including fluency in multiple programming languages and tech stacks, with a strong foundation in software architecture and system design.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to align technological solutions with business objectives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of fostering strong relationships within the team and across the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop technical talent, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

**Education and Experience**:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Over 10 years of experience in software development, with at least 4 years in leadership positions overseeing technical teams.
