**Cancer Registry Program Manager**

Manages the Cancer Registry to promote quality care for the cancer patients at Washington Hospital; manages compliance with the requirements for an approved cancer program and breast program set forth by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS COC) and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC); maintains compliance with the requirements for mandatory statewide reporting set forth by the California Cancer Registry, coordinates Cancer Committee, Breast Health Committee and all Tumor Board meetings; provides medical staff with data from the cancer registry to aid in the improvement of cancer care and survival; prepares PowerPoint cancer-related presentations as requested by the Medical Staff for community events and Grand Rounds; manages contract staff and performs daily activities of the Cancer Registry; performs case finding, abstracting of reportable cases and follow-up according to the standards and requirements of the American College of Surgeons and the California Cancer Registry. Manages Cancer Registry database software - CNExT & Cancer Alert System (CAS). Performs quality improvement initiatives at the request of the Cancer and Breast Health Committees.

Annually submits CME Application to CME Committee for Tumor Board meetings. Submits CME Application for cancer-related Grand Rounds as requested for approval.

Manages the Low Dose CT (LDCT) Lung Screening project. Submits data to the American College of Radiology Lung Cancer Screening Registry. Maintains a database to track patients undergoing LDCT. Provides regular reports to Cancer Committee on LDCT activity.

Maintains a database to track patients with Atypical Ductal and Lobular Hyperplasia and Flat Epithelial Atypia for NAPBC accreditation and annually reports to the Breast Health Committee.

Maintains a database to track breast patients that are high risk for NAPBC accreditation and annually reports to the Breast Health Committee.

Monitors compliance with the COC synoptic op reports and tracks compliance in Cancer Registry Database.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

1. Education:
Required: High School graduate. Satisfactory completion of a Cancer Information Management Program. Desired: AA or AS degree in Health Information Technology from an accredited college or program and satisfactory completion of the national accreditation examination of the American Health Information Management Association.

2. Licenses/Certifications:
Required: Oncology Data Specialist-Certified (ODS-C)

3. Work Experience:
Preferred: At least five years experience managing an accredited cancer program in a hospital setting.

4. Skills/computer/specific technical:
Required:
Complete and accurate knowledge of mandatory California cancer reporting requirements, American College of Surgeons (ACoS) requirements for cancer program accreditation and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) requirements for breast program accreditation.

Thorough knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, oncology terminology, oncology physiology, and oncology diagnostic and treatment modalities.

Thorough knowledge of national cancer treatment guidelines.

Proficient in morphology and topographic site coding by ICD-0.

Expertise in required staging schemes (SEER Summary, SEER Extent of Disease, Site-Specific Data Staging and American Joint Commission -TNM Staging).

Excellent computer skills with advanced experience with graphic presentations, word-processing, and database manipulation.

Ability to investigate, assemble and analyze data for accurate evaluations.

Ability to compile and interpret descriptive statistical computations, chart, and graphs.

Ability to prepare and present reports and recommendations concisely and logically.

Possession of analytical skills required for research and data management.

5. Other qualifications:
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with medical staff, department representatives, employees, representatives of outside agencies and interest groups.

Identifies and abstracts reportable cases for the Healthcare System and responds to requests for cancer registry information.

Obtains treatment information on all cancer cases performed in private physician offices and other facilities.

Ensures a 97% accuracy rate on abstracts submitted to the regional registry.

Obtains follow-up on all living cancer cases within 15 months and maintains the required ACoS follow-up requirements.

Prepares outcome reports requested by the Cancer & Breast Health Committee’s.

Reviews the corrected and returned abstracts from the Greater Bay Area Cancer Registry for quality control as needed.

Ensures hospital maintains an accredited cancer and breast program in accordance with ACoS.

Coordinates and prepares cases for presentation at the General Tumor Board, Breast Tumor Board, Lung Tumor Board and CNS Tumor Board meetings.
