SUMMARY OF POSITION

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Education and Public Engagement, the Director of School, Youth, and Family programs will lead the team responsible for engaging young people and the adults who support them. This involves leading a portfolio of onsite and offsite programs and organizational partnerships that extend the reach of the museum’s audiences and impact. The Director will create and implement strategies and align the team to support the mission and vision of the museum in collaboration with other Department Directors in Education and Public Engagement.

SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the field of art education; at least five years in a supervisory role.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail with ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment a must.
- Ability to be proactive, use independent judgment, and initiative.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- The ability to be diplomatic and professional in all settings.
- Knowledge of modern and contemporary art history and art education, and current educational initiatives.
- Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Oversee the development and articulation of a renewed vision for school, youth, and family programming rooted in the unique offer of Guggenheim and develop metrics to ensure all programming is aligned with the vision.
- Manage a team of program staff and educators to support the vision of the department of Education and Public Engagement.
- Work with school, youth, and family staff to direct the scope, sequence, focus, and content of programs.
- Supervise evaluation and tracking processes for programs to assess success and impact, ensure programming is meeting departmental and institutional goals.
- Communicate dynamically with all stakeholders including Education Committee members, funders, school partners, and colleagues within the museum.
- Serve as liaison with the advancement department for all school, youth and family funding opportunities; participate in outreach efforts to engage new prospects for funding.
- Manage budget process and create revenue opportunities within the program portfolio.
- Serve as liaison with NYC Department of education and other local schools to create partnerships and opportunities for students and educators.
- Contribute to cross-departmental initiatives including re-envisioning the Engelberg Center, its programs to reach young audiences, and its connection to the neighborhoods surrounding the museum.
- Collaborate with the Education Department to enrich learning experiences for all audiences.

WORK DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENT:

- Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties at any of the Guggenheim’s owned or leased properties upon request.
- Occasionally work may be conducted outdoors, exposure to varied weather conditions.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays on occasion.
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.

EDUCATION:

- Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
- Master’s degree in art education arts administration, or a related field preferred.

SALARY RANGE: $100,000 - $106,000 annually
