**Job Title**:
AVID Excel Teacher/Academic Interventionist

**Job Summary**:
The AVID Excel Teacher is a skilled educator grounded in relationships. The AVID Excel teacher develops multilingual students' ability to effectively perform courses of study in the English language by implementing a district-approved curriculum; documents teaching and student progress/ activities/outcomes; provides methods to support and reinforce classroom goals in the home; provides a safe and optimal learning environment; develops appropriate lesson plans and instructional techniques; evaluates students level of English fluency and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

The primary purpose of an academic interventionist is to improve the academic achievement of all students. The interventionist will support classroom teachers in implementing intervention initiatives and plan, implement, and assess intervention services to ensure fidelity.

**Qualifications**:
Current Illinois Professional Educator License

**Evaluation**:
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on staff Evaluation.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Facilitates students’ learning in correlation with the Illinois Learning Standards
- Analyze district assessment data to understand students’ needs to select and recommend evidence-based instructional interventions to implement.
- Analyzes grades, class, and individual student academics to increase student achievement and make informed decisions about instructional practices.
- Facilitates the management and interpretation of data necessary to develop, implement, and evaluate Tier 1, 2, and 3 interventions.
- Communicates the essential questions to clarify the learning goals for each lesson.
- Configures lessons and selects instructional strategies to ensure that all students can answer a lesson’s essential question by its conclusion.
- Designs daily lessons incorporating Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR) to ensure authentically rigorous learning experiences for all students.
- Designs lessons to include 3 or more unique learning tasks for students, at least one of which includes whole-class verbal participation.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Demonstrates the ability to assess and monitor the students’ skills individually.
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Provides students with regular opportunities to collaborate with peers, move with purpose, and experience diverse instructional strategies so that they are physically and intellectually engaged as learners.
- Provides students time to interact with instructional resources and materials in a thoughtful, active manner to support their comprehension and long-term retention of information.
- Allows students to take an active role in their learning by setting and monitoring individualized goals and processing and reflecting deliberately within lessons
- Implements each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) as written and collaborates with colleagues to ensure appropriate modifications or accommodations.
- Assists and supports students struggling with social-emotional and behavioral concerns through the MTSS framework.
- Incorporates cultural diversity and appreciation within the curriculum.
- Uses technologies appropriately in the teaching/learning process.
- Directly supports the instruction of AVID Excel students and students identified for reading intervention.
- Uses, adapts, and delivers the targeted AVID Excel curriculum, which includes language development through thematic units, college and career readiness preparation experiences, and targeted language domain development in writing, inquiry collaboration, organization, and reading.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, including other AVID teachers, site coordinators, AVID tutors, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources to improve the overall quality of student outcomes and achieve established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
- Serves as an advocate for and with students to improve performance, problem-solving techniques, and various personal issues that all support reducing barriers to access.
- Directs AVID tutors, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address the needs of individual students, especially through AVID Scholar Groups that take place during 40% of weekly classes.
