**Job Summary**:
The Behind the Wheel Instructor Instructs students in the content area of Driver’s Education (Behind the Wheel), in alignment with the mission of Harvard High School, which is to produce a community of learners by cultivating academic, social, and emotional skills to maximize each student’s potential.

**Qualifications**:
Professional Educator License with an Illinois approved endorsement in Safety & Driver Education (Grades 9-12)

Valid driver’s license

**Evaluation**:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Staff.

**Reports to**:
Summer School Secondary Principal

**Terms of Employment**:
Monday - Friday; June - August

$33 per hour and benefits as established by the Board of Education.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- The schedule is determined based on student enrollment in the program.
- Instruct students behind the wheel for the purpose of developing driving skills and knowledge pertaining to rules of the road.
- Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe learning environment.
- Maintain and prepare all necessary records and reports.
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as determined by the principal or designee or as needs arise.

**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Must demonstrate a record of effectiveness in their teaching
- Must have excellent planning and organization skills
- Must have the ability to work collaboratively with others
- Must have strong verbal communication skills
- Must model a desire and willingness to learn continually

**Physical Demands**:
This position demands the ability to sit in a car for long periods, lift 30-50 lbs. of equipment/cones out of the trunk when required, get in and out of an automobile several times a day, react quickly to emergencies, and properly use the instructor brake.
