Waterford, United States Washington-Caldwell School District Full time

Washington-Caldwell School District is located in extreme western Racine County in the Town of Waterford. Enrollment is 200 students and approximately 30 staff members. The community recently passed two referendums in support of the school district.

Roles and responsibilities of the Washington-Caldwell School District Director of Finance

Accounting and Reporting
- Adherence to WUFAR and GASB procedures
- Maintain an effective system of internal controls
- Reconcile bank statements on a monthly basis
- Prepare accurate financial reports for all stakeholders
- Utilize an encumbrance system of accounting
- Process financial transactions on a timely basis
- Submit accurate and timely financial reports to DPI
- Keep the superintendent and board informed on the financial status of the district
- Monitor state and federal grants including filing claims, time and effort monitoring, maintenance of effort, and indirect costs
- Manage student reporting for enrollment and membership purposes
- Maintain and report census for DPI reporting

Auditing
- Facilitate the external audit process
- Review and respond to the audit findings and management letter - Develop a corrective action plan if applicable

Budget and Financial Planning
- Prepare budget documents following prescribed timelines
- Operate an accounting system which monitors school expenditures and verifies that expenditures are made following budgeted expectations
- Set tax levy determined by state statutes

Cash Management
- Implement cash handling procedures and internal controls
- Develop and monitor cash flow projections

Debt Management
- Identify the need for both short-term and long-term capital financing
- Assist in long-term borrowing referendums

General Management
- Maintain a system where specific tasks are carried out effectively and efficiently
- Communicate effectively with the public, school board, school staff, and media
- Promote principles of team building and collaboration
- Exhibit ethical behavior in all actions

Human Resource Management
- Assist in the development, design, implementation, and communication of benefit plans (health, dental, vision, life insurance, and LTD insurance)
- Comply with federal labor laws including FMLA
- Assist in developing total compensation packages

Payroll Management
- Learn, maintain, evaluate, and update the payroll system
- Communicate payroll information to staff
- Prepare payroll deductions and corresponding deposits and reports promptly (including TSAs, Section 125 plans, state and federal taxes, and Wisconsin Retirement)
- Maintain salary, leave, and absence data

Purchasing and Accounts Payable Management
- Manage a comprehensive purchasing and supply management program that meets the needs of the district
- Continuously monitor the purchasing and supply management programs
- Maintain credit/purchasing card practices and procedure

Risk Management
- Determine risk management needs of the district
- Work with an insurance consultant to assist the district in risk management needs
- File insurance claims when appropriate

Other Related Services
- Follow federal and state guidelines of the free and reduced meal program
- Administer and monitor food service operations
- Manage open enrollment, tuition waiver, and tuition records

Other Duties as assigned by the District Superintendent and School Board

Pay: From $55,000.00 per year
