Boys Basketball Coach

Waterford Public Schools has a vacancy for a team-oriented individual. Waterford Public Schools is seeking **an 8th Grade Boys Basketball Coach at Clark Lane Middle School for the fall of the 24/25 school year, effective November 29, 2024.**

The Middle School Boys Basketball Head Coach is responsible for developing and managing the boys’ basketball team, including coaching during practices and games, fostering student-athlete growth, and ensuring a positive and educational experience for all team members.

**_ Key Responsibilities:_**:
**Coaching and Training**:

- ** Develop and Implement Practice Plans**: Create structured and effective practice schedules that focus on skill development, teamwork, and basketball fundamentals.
- ** Teach Basketball Skills**: Instruct athletes on the proper techniques for dribbling, shooting, passing, defense, and overall game strategy.
- ** Game Strategy and Management**: Develop game plans, analyze opponents, and make in-game decisions to maximize team performance.
- ** Player Development**: Work with individual players to improve their skills and understanding of the game.

**Team Management**:

- ** Recruit and Select Players**: Organize tryouts and select team members based on skill, sportsmanship, and attitude.
- ** Team Leadership**: Provide leadership and guidance to the team, promoting positive attitudes, teamwork, and respect.

**Administrative Duties**:

- ** Equipment Management**: Ensure all equipment and uniforms are properly maintained and available for practices and games.
- ** Compliance**: Ensure the team adheres to school policies, league rules, and safety regulations.

**Communication**:

- ** Parent and Community Engagement**: Maintain open lines of communication with parents regarding schedules, expectations, and player progress.
- ** Reporting**: Provide regular updates to the athletic director and school administration on team progress, challenges, and needs.

**Mentorship and Development**:

- ** Foster Academic and Personal Growth**: Encourage student-athletes to maintain high academic standards and develop strong character.
- ** Provide Support and Counseling**: Act as a mentor and advisor to student-athletes, offering guidance on both athletic and personal challenges.

**Experience**:

- ** Coaching Experience**: Prior experience coaching basketball at the middle school level or higher is preferred.
- ** Playing Experience**: Previous experience as a basketball player is beneficial.

**Skills and Abilities**:

- ** Strong Communication Skills**: Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and school administration.
- ** Organizational Skills**: Capable of managing multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently.
- ** Leadership**: Demonstrated leadership qualities and the ability to inspire and motivate young athletes.
- ** Knowledge of Basketball**: In-depth understanding of basketball rules, techniques, and strategies.

- ** Physical Demands**: Ability to participate in physical activities and demonstrate basketball skills.

CT Coaching Certification Required.
