**Essential Functions**:
This position is supervisory work providing oversight for a staff of clerical or support services employees and unit supervisors. Supervises clerical staff providing direct service to the public or courtroom staff performing specialized functions supporting a section of the court. Assigns, coordinates, and evaluates the work of staff to include Unit Supervisors, Lead Workers, Judiciary Clerks and/or Courtroom Clerks.
Plans, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates the work of staff; assigns and distributes work to employees daily providing instruction when necessary. Provides quality control by reviewing commitments and releases prior to implementation of each occurrence. Trains staff on court procedures and practices, automated systems, filing, and office equipment. Assists with departmental staff meetings outlining office policy, new procedures and promoting communication among the staff. Member of interview panel for hiring of new employees; schedules, counsels, disciplines, and evaluates subordinate staff. Maintains time and attendance records and sign time sheets. Collaborates with employees, department leadership and management to develop goals for individuals, the department, and the organization. Recommends modifications to procedures and systems to improve processing time, accuracy, and efficiency. Assesses problems, issues and conflicts and depending on the scale and complexity of the situation, either resolves independently or recommends alternative solutions. Prepares correspondence on a variety of court related matters.
Prepares new case files by reading charging documents, typing initial docket entry and establishing electronic case file. Processes new cases and sends them out for service of legal process via the Sheriff?s Office, private process, or certified mail. Maintains case docket by entering records of documents/pleadings as they are received using a computer keyboard. Processes and maintains case files by reviewing pleadings, typing docket information, and establishing case file folders. Prepares case files and ensures that all necessary documents are complete and accurate in accordance with established court procedures. Responds to more difficult inquiries and resolves issues and/or handles customers with more complex problems. Ensures proper completion of various court related forms and information regarding court policies and procedures.
Assists the public and attorneys by providing information about the status of cases or about Clerk's office procedures both at the counter and by telephone. Greets and assists the public and court related personnel, responding to inquiries regarding the proper completion of various court related forms and information regarding court policies and procedures.
**Education**:
High School diploma (or GED equivalent).
**Experience**:
Four (4) years of work experience in court operations in a trial or appellate court in the United States, or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services, to include two (2) years of the aforementioned court experience.
The required experience must include one (1) year of lead, supervisory, or court specialist experience.
**Note**:
A Bachelor?s Degree may substitute two (2) years of the required work experience.
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute two (2) years of required non-court work experience.
A Paralegal Certificate may be substituted for one (1) year of non-court work experience.
**Knowledge of**:
General office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Maryland court forms, practices, procedures, protocols, systems, and equipment required to support the specialized work of the assigned unit(s).
Customer service etiquette.
Job related terminology, codes, comments, notations, orders, policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws.
