I. **TITLE**: Teacher Assistant / Teacher’s Aide - Early Childhood Education

II. **SUPERVISOR**: Program Administrator
- Early Childhood Education and classroom teachers

III. **HOURS PER WEEK**: 35 - 40

IV.

**QUALIFICATIONS**: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience working with pre-school children preferred.

V. **FUNCTIONS**: To assist teachers in assigned instructional area and in the management of individual and small group activities

VI.**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Ensure a safe, secure, and therapeutic classroom environment for all students
- Demonstrate an understanding of the need for establishing therapeutic relationships with students, assist with managing the classroom environment
- Work with classroom teachers in accordance with general classroom guidelines, New York Education Department, Albany City School District, County schools and The Office of Family and Child Services (OCFS)
- Assist with art preparation (cutting, laminating, etc.) classroom activities and clerical duties (photocopying, filing etc.)
- Supervision of nap time
- Meet with the assigned teacher to determine both long term plans and plans for the upcoming day and week.
- Use open, honest, professional communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Communicate student concerns and issues to appropriate staff.
- Monitor instructional and school activities under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
- Diapering, toileting supervision and assistance
- Monitor the students during meals and snacks
- breakfast, lunch, after school/aftercare
- Attend orientation, training sessions and in-service meetings in person, virtually or pre-recorded as scheduled
- Implement agency practices including policies, procedures, routine, expectations and perform additional duties as assigned
