About This Role The Department of Special Education, Counseling, and Student Affairs in the College of Education at Kansas State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in special education. This position offers the successful candidate an opportunity for providing programmatic leadership and innovative collaboration with award-winning colleagues and students in a Research I university. The Department offers an M.S. and an Ed.D. in Special Education along with various special education endorsements. The Department of Special Education, Counseling, and Student Affairs is one of three departments in the College of Education which is dedicated to "Preparing educators to be knowledgeable, ethical, caring decision makers." The position involves teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in special education. The courses use various modalities, including in-person, online, and blended. Other responsibilities include advising graduate students, engaging in research and creative endeavors, seeking external funding, providing service, participating in governance, and being involved with professional special education organizations at the state and national levels. What You'll Need to Succeed Minimum Qualifications: * Earned doctorate in special education or a closely related field prior to starting the position. ABD will be considered. * Expertise in high incidence (mild/moderate) special education. * Professional experience in special education. * Potential for excellence in instruction and advising both on-campus and online. * Potential for scholarly activity that results in professional publications and presentations. * Ability to implement and integrate instructional technology in a learning management system. * Successful experience working with and supporting K-12 students with disabilities. * Ability and commitment to work collaboratively in group settings. * Membership and involvement in professional special education organizations. The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level. Preferred Qualifications: * Expertise in low incidence (moderate/severe) special education. * Record of excellence in instruction and advising, both on-campus and online. * Record of scholarly activity resulting in professional publications and presentations in special education. * Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, accreditation and assessment of student learning. * Record of leadership in professional special education organizations. * Evidence of external funding or strong potential to secure research support.
