EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The (INP) transforms communities by equipping social impact leadersfrom nonprofits, the public sector, and social enterpriseswith the practical skills, networks, and resources they need to confidently and boldly advance social change and make their organizations more effective, innovative, and sustainable. INPs nationally recognized suite of leadership development programs, community convenings, and robust alumni engagement serves social impact leaders at all career stages who are driving solutions to their communities most pressing issues. INP offers three distinct leadership development programs: the RISE Program for earlycareer leaders; the Core Certificate Program for executives, senior leaders, and middle managers; and the BLI Executive Fellowship for senior leaders. As INP works to fuel a social impact sector and workforce that is deeply connected across city and state lines, INP convenes leaders through both national and placebased cohorts, with placebased sites in twelve locations coast to coast. INP has experienced transformative growth over the last five years. From an annual operating budget of $2.9 million serving 230 leaders and 1,400 alumni in 2020, INP has matured into a dynamic, scaling organization with an $8.1 million annual operating budget, 35 fulltime staff members, and 60 parttime faculty members. INP now trains over 650 leaders annually and boasts a national alumni network of over 5,000 leaders. These numbers are expected to rise significantly in accordance with INPs strategic plan to meet the growing needs of the social sector. INP is seeking an experienced and innovative Chief Development Officer (CDO) to develop and lead its philanthropic strategy, securing the investments necessary to scale the organizations national impact. Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CDO will be a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, partnering with the President & CEO, Board of Directors, a skilled development team, and colleagues throughout the organization to achieve key fundraising goals. The CDO will collaborate closely with the Chief External Engagement Officer (CEEO), who oversees brand development, marketing, communications, and earned revenue through INPs scaled impact strategy, the Community of Talent Initiative (COTI). This is an exciting time for INP, presenting an incredible opportunity for the right person to join the organization at a critical inflection point in the social impact sector. This is a hybrid role that will require moderate domestic travel and regular inperson meetings with the Executive Leadership Team, prospects, donors, and institutional funders. INP offers a highperforming, fun, and deeply connected team culturewhere collaboration, creativity, and purpose drive everything they do. ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW INP was built to ensure that the nonprofit and social impact sector workforce is exponentially more effective, connected, equitable, and diverse. This was the vision of Barry Dym, Ph.D., founder, organizer, consultant, and coach, who established INP in 2007. He set out to address several critical issues he saw as threats to the sustainability and effectiveness of the nonprofit sector challenges that INP still seeks to remedy today: An underinvestment in leadership development and organizational capacity building. A leadership succession crisis triggered by the retirement of baby boomers. The need for leadership that not only reflects the communities served but also leads to higherperforming organizations. In INPs first year, thirteen students in Boston completed the program, which was established to equip nonprofit and public sector executives and managers with resources, relationships, and skills to strengthen their organizations. Since then, INP has added several important and impactful programs to its portfolio, including the following: The is an earlycareer program focused on advancing and retaining talent in social impact work. Participants in this program deepen their understanding of how social impact organizations operate, develop essential leadership skills, engage in professional networking, and advance their careers. The (BLI) is a national, twelvemonth program that connects, inspires, and uplifts seniorlevel leaders shaping social impact for Black communities across the country and across various sectors. The (LLS) is a free series of carefully planned virtual workshops and webinars led by experts and national thought leaders, covering topics that range from strategic leadership frameworks and tactical management resources to mindfulness practices and tools designed to promote holistic wellbeing. Have ongoing access to timely programs, expert training, resources, and networking opportunities specifically designed for them. Today, INP supports, trains, and connects executives, managers, and emerging leaders across the nation. INP has grown exponentially in terms of budget, staff, faculty, number of program participants, geographical reach, and overall impact, meeting the needs of leaders and their teams as they navigate greater complexity in leading and working within their organizations in the current climate. INP is wellpositioned for continued growth. Currently led by President & Chief Executive Officer Yolanda Coentro, an INP alumna of the class of 2014 and a nationally recognized leader, INP continues to innovate and expand its programming and impact across the country. With a proven, awardwinning model and a growing network of accomplished alumni, INP is uplifting and uniting nonprofit and public sector leaders as they work and lead. THE OPPORTUNITY This is an important and exciting time for INP at a moment of significant change and challenge in the social impact sector. INP is seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to join their team as they continue to build on INPs considerable momentum and expand their efforts to transform communities by equipping social impact leaders across the nation to meet the moment and achieve lasting, transformative change. INP is preparing for a period of transformational growth, including plans to double its operating budget and expand its national footprint through major philanthropic investments and earned revenue. The CDO will play a critical role in ensuring that the organization is financially positioned to scale with integrity, building the systems and relationships necessary to secure multiyear support for INPs next chapter. Reporting directly to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the CDO will be responsible for all aspects of philanthropic fundraising, donor engagement and stewardship, prospect pipeline development, development operations, board engagement, and data management. They will design and execute effective strategies and processes and develop the necessary infrastructure to deliver outstanding longterm results in a growing national enterprise. The CDO will work closely with the President & CEO, the Board of Directors, the Executive Team, and a dedicated team of fund development professionals to develop and lead a multiyear fundraising strategy that strengthens INPs financial sustainability. The CDO will also engage in the following opportunities and efforts: Diversify and grow INPs revenue streams. The annual budget at INP is currently $8.1million. INP aspires to continue its trajectory of strategic growth and projects that the annual budget will be approximately $15million within the next five years. To achieve this, the next CDO will leverage, partner with, and support the President & CEO and Board of Directors to advance INPs fundraising objectives. The CDO will architect and execute an expanded, comprehensive, multiyear philanthropic growth strategy to secure and sustain support for INPs operations and key programs, fueling continued national growth. As INP explores innovative approaches to fundraising and donor engagement, the CDO should be open to learning about emerging tools and technologies, including the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence, to enhance strategy and scale impact. Build a national development team. The INP development team is currently comprised of a Vice President of Development, a Development Operations Manager, a Development Manager, a Senior Grant Writer, and a Grant Writer. The CDO will mentor team members, refining and expanding their capacity to facilitate growth and incorporate best practices, thereby elevating the teams impact as INP continues to scale. They will cultivate a welcoming and supportive team environment that values and rewards strategic thinking and planning, effective crossteam collaborations, attention to detail, adaptability, learning, and professional development. Build robust systems and processes to fuel and sustain next level fund development. The next CDO will ensure that INP has robust operational and data management, analysis, and reporting systems and processes in place to optimize the development teams capacity, drive the organizations efficiency and effectiveness, and support datainformed planning and decisionmaking. This will entail working with the President & CEO, as well as other members of both the senior team and the development team, to assess current systems and processes and design and implement necessary improvements. Strengthen and deepen the fund development partnership with the Board of Directors. The INP Board of Directors comprises a deeply committed group of business and community leaders who are passionate about INPs mission. The CDO will work closely with the Board of Directors and the President & CEO to develop and support new opportunities for board engagement in INPs fund development efforts. Collabor]]>
