*Job Description* Increase your chances of an interview by reading the following overview of this role before making an application. *Job Description Job Title: CNC Router Operator **Reports To:* Department Supervisor 1st shift hours – 6:00am – 3:00pm or 2nd shift hours 3:00pm – 1:30am *Summary: *Performs a variety of CNC machine operations utilizing computerized numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form parts to specifications. Consistently acts as a representative of Benchmark Foam by personifying the company's Core Values of Integrity, Commitment, and Excellence. A router programmer creates and optimizes computer programs for CNC (Computer Numerical Control) routers by interpreting technical drawings, selecting tools, and writing G code or using CAM software. *Essential Duties and Responsibilities: *To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Machine setup ad operation, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and collaborating with production teams to ensure efficient and precise cutting of materials like wood, plastic or foam products. Benchmark Foam operates on the principle of effective teamwork. Other duties may be assigned, including cross-training and/or working in other departments. Interprets basic drawings, program sheets, instructions, blueprints and process sheets to determine work to be done. Reviews specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished parts. To have the ability to understand geometry, drawing requirements and possess programming skills. Uses precise measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers, measuring to 1/32". Determines machining sequence, tooling requirements/changes and dimensions of finished parts. Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD & T). Sets up, tests and adjusts CNC machine. Uses knowledge of CNC concepts, theories, terminology to perform machine setups, change fixtures, change programs, and quality checks first part productions. Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. Performs product inspection. Performs a variety of inspection and gauging operations to ensure adherence to quality standards and specifications. Makes offsets and adjustments as required to compensate for wire burn or tool changes. Performs preventive maintenance by inspecting CNC machine and wiping it down regularly. Performs general housekeeping duties in the CNC section of the plant. Reduces production failures and improves yields, utilizing strong manufacturing troubleshooting skills, optimizes the set-up process to reduce overall set up time. Maintains all necessary process documentation. Recommends methods and procedures to make processes more efficient. Directs team member activity within the department. *Job Specific Competencies:**Education and/or Experience:* High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with technical certification or associates degree ; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in using CAD/CAM software and G-code. *Language Skills:* Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. *Mathematical Skills:* Ability to add and subtract multiple digit numbers and to multiply and divide multiple digit numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to read tape measure to 1/32 inch. *Reasoning Ability: *Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or blueprint form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations involving a variety of solutions. *Computer Skills:* To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer software/hardware. *Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:* Current South Dakota Class 1 - Car/Light Truck Driver's License preferred. Forklift operating experience. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to100 pounds.
