Apply now Job Purpose The Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety for Virginia Operations is responsible for providing strategic direction for all aspects of environmental, health and safety including occupational health, safety, hygiene, environmental and sustainability issues. The position also assists the Vice President, Virginia Operations with Strongwell’s Virginia facilities adherence with the policies and practices of the corporation, the company ethics code, regulations and administrative rulings of governmental organizations and other regulatory authorities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for designing, monitoring and auditing the Environmental Control System, which must meet the requirements established by federal, state, and local regulations. Ensures accurate submittal of all required federal, state, and local environmental permits and subsequent reporting to include Title V, RCRA, DOT and stormwater management. Manages safety training program. Maintains site specific EHS programs and plans in accordance with state and federal regulations and company expectations. Monitors and evaluates pending legislation to determine the impact on the company. Provides leadership to EHS employees. Administers internal environmental and safety audits. Interfaces with government agencies for regulatory issues. Translates and incorporates the strategic business plan into EHS operational plans. Enhances the work environment to foster self-reliant, confident, innovative and engaged team members. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Works with others in a cooperative fashion. Other Duties and Responsibilities Leadership skills: ability to lead, mentor and coach team members to make difficult decisions. Technical skills: extensive experience with interpreting applicable laws and regulations; problem solving and decision‑making skills with integrity. Communication skills: displays proven written communication skills; ability to speak effectively and persuasively with team members, regulatory agencies, general public; positively resolves conflict and handles emotional situations. Reasoning skills: ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions; displays effective anticipation skills and implements preventive measures when needed. Computer skills: exposure to a networked environment using a Windows interface (Microsoft Office.) Excellence behaviors: remains engaged, proactive and positive in tough circumstances; owns assignments and is accountable for their success; maintains trust in relationships. Time management: ability to apply flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments; and strong planning skills.
