Airport Police & Fire Officer 5 / Deputy Chief - Operations (PCN 253635) Effective July 1, 2025 the wage for this position increased by 4.5%. What You Will Be Doing: The Airport Police and Fire Officer 5 (Deputy Chief-Operations) at Anchorage International Airport (ANC) Police and Fire Department is responsible for overseeing and managing law enforcement, Aircraft Rescue Firefighting, rescue operations, hazardous material response, EMS, code enforcement, safety, and general emergency response functions to protect and care for those traveling to and from, as well as working at, ANC. This role includes managing staffing, equipment, and the provided budget to ensure readiness and response capabilities. The Deputy Chief will make recommendations for departmental policy changes and is empowered to interpret and enforce department policies and procedures to fulfill the mission. This position is responsible for the administration and management of up to 54 employees, including 12 Airport Police and Fire Officer (APFO) leads, 41 subordinate officers, and a Criminal Justice Technician. The incumbent may also assume responsibility for managing and directing the entire department, including the Airport Communication Center, and associated administrative duties, in the Chiefs absence. OR Five years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience certified by the Alaska Police Standards Council, or an equivalent agency in another U.S. jurisdiction, three years of which must be at the supervisory command level. At The Time Of Initial Hire Applicants Must: Be a citizen of the United States. Be 21 years of age or older within one year of hire. Possess a high school diploma recognized by a state; diploma from a home school program recognized or certified by a state or by a local school district within a state as having met the state's graduation requirements; or have passed a General Education Development (GED) test. Possess a valid driver's license. Special Note As a condition of employment, incumbents will be required to achieve a Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications issued by the Alaska Fire Standards Council within 12 months of appointment. Additional Qualifications Completion of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, AAAE Certified Member, Airport Master Firefighter, and Alaska Police Standards Council Advanced Police Officer certification (or equivalent) are desirable but not required?
