Principal Data Scientist Overview The Bing organization is looking for a Principal Data Scientist. The team pushes the boundaries of how users engage with search engines and translates those insights into actionable metrics. These metrics guide the Bing team and help engineers make informed ship decisions for thousands of online controlled experiments. This role offers the chance to have solid, multiplicative impact on the organization. Responsibilities Inform future directions of Bing’s A/B experimentation platform and drive improvements. Establish long‑term A/B experimentation capabilities. Understand A/B online experiments, online user engagement, and produce actionable, trustworthy conclusions. Develop strategies for understanding correlation between key Bing metrics and define overall ship decision criteria. Continuously improve measurement of key metrics and update them according to new instrumented signals. Develop tools to help analyze metric movements and help feature teams understand why changes impact the metrics. Required Qualifications Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data‑science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques, and reporting results). OR Master's Degree in the same fields AND 7+ years data‑science experience. OR Bachelor's Degree in the same fields AND 10+ years data‑science experience. OR equivalent experience. Experience in SQL‑like query languages. Experience in design and problem‑solving skills with one or more programming languages, such as Python, Java, C#, or C++. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with online A/B experimentation. Familiarity with large‑scale online products and online instrumentation. Experience with large datasets and interest in consumer online search behaviors. Ability to work independently, influence others, and strong communication and collaboration skills. Benefits and Compensation Data Science IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 – $274,800 per year. In the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area it is USD $188,000 – $304,200 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
