Hybrid in Orem, UT Have you got what it takes to succeed The following information should be read carefully by all candidates. $160,000 - $190,000 Nexio is looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer to join our Development team As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be a hands-on technical leader driving the architecture, design, and development of scalable, high-performance systems across our platform. You’ll partner with engineering leadership, product teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, and high-quality software solutions. This role combines deep technical expertise with the ability to mentor others, influence technology direction, and raise the overall bar for engineering excellence within the organization. *Responsibilities** Architect and Design: Lead the design and implementation of large-scale distributed systems and APIs that drive business-critical functionality. * Technical Leadership: Establish and maintain best practices for code quality, testing, performance, and security. * Mentorship: Guide and mentor engineers, fostering growth and technical excellence across the team. * Innovation: Research and introduce modern technologies that enhance developer productivity, system reliability, and performance. * Collaboration: Partner with Product Management to balance business priorities with long-term technical investments. * Operational Ownership: Ensure reliability, observability, and maintainability of systems through effective monitoring, alerting, and automation. * Security and Compliance: Champion secure coding practices, threat modeling, and vulnerability management (including Snyk integrations). * Agile Delivery: Lead and participate in all stages of the Agile lifecycle, from planning to release. * Culture and Inclusion: Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning across teams. *Qualifications** Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, or a related field — or equivalent experience. * 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2–3 years in a principal or senior technical leadership role. * Proven expertise in designing, implementing, and scaling distributed systems and high-traffic applications. * Deep knowledge of software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization. * Strong experience with cloud architectures (AWS preferred) and Infrastructure-as-Code practices (e.g., Terraform, Serverless Framework). * Demonstrated leadership across technical initiatives that impact multiple teams or systems. * Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and business stakeholders. * Experience mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions at the organizational level. *Bonus / Preferred Qualifications** Experience in the *payment industry* or with financial systems (PCI compliance, transaction processing, payment gateways). * Experience with *security tools (Snyk)* and *observability platforms (Coralogix)*. * Knowledge of event-driven architectures and serverless systems. * Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, performance testing, and monitoring best practices. *Preferred Technical Stack** *Languages / Frameworks:* Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript * *Cloud / Infrastructure:* AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, ECS, CloudFormation/Terraform, Serverless Framework)* *Databases:* MySQL, NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, etc.)* *Tools:* Git (Bitbucket), JIRA, *Snyk*, *Coralogix*, CI/CD pipelines, CloudWatch *What is Nexio?* Nexio transforms payment chaos into simplicity, giving merchants the freedom to focus on what truly matters to them—growing their business.
