Lawrence KS United States The University of Kansas Full time
Position OverviewThe University of Kansas (KU) Libraries invites applications for a tenure-track librarian to join the faculty. The Common Book Librarian will direct and grow the established KU Reads program, in a team-based environment.
One of the three goals of KU Libraries Strategic Plan is to "forge partnerships and experiences that equip students as engaged, critical thinkers who thrive in the classroom and beyond." The Common Book Librarian plays a key role in advancing this objective by directing the KU Reads program to meet its goals to build community among students, faculty, and staff; encourage intellectual engagement through reading, discussion, curriculum, and events; and create a shared conversation about topics and issues of significance in today's world. The Common Book Librarian will coordinate with Academic Affairs to integrate the Common Book into curricular opportunities, and will coordinate with the Libraries, the Hall Center for the Humanities , and other campus units to design and plan co-curricular events. This position will lead the KU Reads Advisory Board, and guide the Common Book Selection Committee in identifying interdisciplinary questions and grand challenge facing the KU local and global communities in order to facilitate the selection of a book each year. The Common Book Librarian will also coordinate and facilitate an annual assessment of the KU Reads program to be shared with planning partners and the Office of the Provost.
The Common Book Librarian is a member of the Research & Learning department at KU Libraries and reports to the Head of the Center for Undergraduate Initiatives and Engagement. As a member of the Center for Undergraduate Initiatives and Engagement, this position contributes to student success and retention efforts by enhancing and promoting library services, resources, and spaces. This position works closely with colleagues in the libraries' Research Engagement Division and beyond to accomplish shared goals, and works to strategically address the libraries' priorities. The successful candidate will engage and support all undergraduate students, and actively contribute to the advancement of undergraduate initiatives at the University of Kansas.

KU's excellence is a result of the rich tapestry of experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds of our faculty, staff, students, and colleagues from across our nation and the globe. At KU, we invest in continuous learning and growth by creating a climate where people engage in respectful dialogue and debate, and support each other's success. We foster a culture of care where each person is seen, heard and valued. When people feel a true sense of belonging, we believe they are better able to reach their full potential and achieve remarkable things. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment.
This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position. Rank considerations are based on professional performance, research, and service experience sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian. Startup funds and annual development funds are provided to tenure-track faculty to support scholarly activities.
