The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in chemical/polymer engineering, with expertise in the blown film extrusion process, and product development. The Technical Manager plays a key role in driving innovation, optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring food contact regulation compliance, and ensuring the highest standards of product quality and performance. They are the technical liaison between BJK and customers/vendors, creating lasting relationships built on trust in our capabilities and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy: Develop and implement a strategic technology roadmap aligned with the company's business objectives. Identify emerging polymer/regulatory trends, technologies, and opportunities for innovation within the blown film/packaging industry.
- Product Development: Lead research and development to design and launch new products that meet customer needs and market demands. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, sales, and customers to drive product innovation and differentiation.
- Process Optimization: Continuously improve manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness. Utilize data-driven approaches and statistical analysis to identify areas for optimization and implement solutions for process improvement.
- Quality Assurance: Work with the Quality Team to establish and maintain rigorous quality control standards throughout the production process. Lead troubleshooting efforts and provide guidance for corrective action initiatives to improve customer product quality. Provide technical expertise to customers to ensure compliance with industry regulations and customer specifications.
- Technology Transfer: Support the transfer of new products from trials to commercial-scale production. Work closely with production teams to troubleshoot technical issues, optimize equipment performance, and ensure successful scale-up of new processes. Support the implementation and maintenance of the ERP and other software necessary to enhance and monitor company performance.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training across all parts of the business. Foster a culture of innovation, agility, collaboration, and continuous learning within the organization.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, industry organizations, and vendors. Represent the company at conferences and trade shows to collaborate with technical partners, customers, and vendors to establish relationships and identify emerging technologies and opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering or related field.
- Experience in polymer processing, film extrusion, and technology development within the flexible packaging industry.
- Proven track record of success in leading cross-functional teams and driving technical innovation.
- Strong knowledge of polymer science, rheology, physical testing, and materials characterization techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical capabilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities, with the ability to influence and inspire others both in and out of the organization.
- Experience and skilled in a customer facing role.
- Experience working with vendors to identify new and cost-effective materials.
- Hands-on experience with process optimization, statistical analysis, troubleshooting methodology, ERP software and quality management systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to blown film and food contact flexible packaging.
