Speech and Language Pathologist

Job Overview of Speech Language Pathologist

The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) provides direct individual and group treatment for students with speech and language deficits based on IEP goals and objectives. The SLP is also responsible for conducting screenings and evaluations as directed by the Speech and Language Coordinator. The SLP collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to provide further understanding of the interventions and treatment of students with speech and language deficits. The SLP is responsible for daily progress notes and quarterly reports. The SLP will be responsible for all necessary paperwork associated with the students being serviced is required. This paperwork would cover reporting sessions delivered, writing IEP Direct notes, and any CSE paperwork. The SLP helps children understand and use basic language concepts related to classroom learning and encourages literacy development.

This is a 10 month school year and 6 week summer program : Hours - 8:30 am-3:30 pm daily, except for one day per week so designated for staff conference; 3:00 pm -5:00 pm.

Essential Duties of Speech Language Pathologist

Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Effectively manage caseload
Screens student for potential speech and language difficulties
Works with multidisciplinary team to create and appropriate IEP for students
Provides appropriate interventions consistent with IEP goals
Develops strategies for treatment
Work closely with ANDRUS staff and families to develop classrooms and individual interventions that are targeted to support student's needs
Participate actively as a treatment team member in staff meetings, team meetings, in-service and trainings
Prepare and maintain accurate records, progress notes and other required documentation and clear communication between teachers, teacher's assistants, milieu therapists, related services providers, residential staff, and families
Work collaboratively with other disciplines and departments for continued development and implementation of campus wide approach that emphasizes self-regulation.
Supports overall strategic plan of the organization
Ability to adhere to our organization's core values and commitments

Essential Qualifications of Speech Language Pathologist

Key qualifications include:

Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology
New York State License in Speech and Language Pathology
Certification of Clinical Competence
Certification of Teaching Students with Speech and Language Disabilities
Strong verbal, written, and computer skills
Ability to access and utilize ADP app on smartphone or other device for access to agency programs

Physical/Travel Requirements

Must possess ability to reach, sit, stand, walk, bend, run, climb stairs, and lifts weights of up to 30 lbs.
Have physical capacity to restrain or assist in the restraint of a child.

Candidates who are successfully hired, must participate in our Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training which concludes with a written and verbal test, and you will be evaluated on conducting a proper physical restraint
