My client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Construction Estimator to join our team in Portland, Oregon. The Estimator will play a critical role in accurately preparing cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for a variety of commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of construction processes, materials, and industry trends, with a focus on delivering competitive and precise project bids.

Description

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Estimation:

    • Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects from initial bid to project completion.
    • Analyze architectural and engineering plans, specifications, and other project documents to prepare comprehensive estimates.
    • Identify and quantify materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor needs.

  2. Bid Preparation:

    • Prepare and submit competitive bids in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Invitations to Bid (ITBs).
    • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to ensure all aspects of the project are considered in the bid.
    • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain the best possible pricing and terms.

  3. Budget Management:

    • Monitor project budgets and costs throughout the construction lifecycle.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to management on cost variances and potential financial impacts.
    • Assist in value engineering efforts to optimize project costs without compromising quality.

  4. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain organized records of all estimates, bids, and related documentation.
    • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and clients.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and local building codes.

  5. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other team members to gather necessary information for accurate estimations.
    • Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to clarify project requirements and resolve any estimation discrepancies.
    • Participate in project meetings and contribute to strategic planning discussions.

Profile

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
    • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)) are a plus.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating.
    • Proven track record of successful project estimations and bid submissions in the Portland, Oregon market.
    • Experience with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Bluebeam, PlanSwift) and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Skills:

    • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
    • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
    • Familiarity with Portland's local building codes, regulations, and permitting processes.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with green building practices and LEED certification processes.
  • Knowledge of local market trends and supplier networks in Portland, Oregon.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and engineering drawings.
