Job Summary:

This position is the Chief Accountant of St. Elizabeth Healthcare and all entities are considered part of the annual consolidated financials, as required by the St. Elizabeth Board of Trustees. This position is directly responsible for the accuracy of all interim financial statements, the annual audited statement, the quarterly external financial statements, capital accounting, net accounts receivable valuation, consolidations and eliminations and joint-venture accounting for all entities included in the St. Elizabeth audited financial statements, including St. Elizabeth Physicians. All accounting policies and procedures must be approved by this position.

Job Description:

  • Oversee the operations of a designated business unit. Develop, promote, and maintain professional relationships to ensure an environment conducive to customer service and high-quality patient care. Create, implement, and control designated budgets (operating and capital). Oversee staff development, evaluate job performance, offer constructive feedback, discipline as necessary, and provide on-going coaching to ensure activities are performed within department and St. Elizabeth policy. Design/implement efficient services. Offer revenue enhancements or expense reductions, monitor expenses, benchmark, encourage service excellence and provide effective communications. Participates in community benefit activities and outreach to establish/maintain collaborative community relationships and enhance the visibility of the healthcare system.
  • Coordinate relationship with external auditors. Ensure auditors receive all schedules and financial data necessary to complete the audit on a timely basis. Review the audit report and footnotes and review or prepare all supporting audit schedules.
  • Responsible for the month-end closing process. Reviews journal entries, trial balance and other entries made by the accounting staff as necessary to insure accuracy. Review monthly financial reports, consolidated financial statements and statistical data. Review reconciliations for all cash and investments.
  • Responsible for monthly consolidation of all entities including appropriate cost allocations and eliminations to be shown on the key financial statements shared with the various committees of the Board of Trustees as well as the full Board. Responsible to ensure the preparation of consolidated financial statements on a quarterly basis for submission to rating agencies and bondholders.
  • Responsible for the accuracy, quality and reproducibility of the estimations for the value of accounts receivable (net revenue) for all consolidated entities. Works with other finance experts to develop policies and procedures for accounting for bad debt, charity, and accounts receivable in all entities.
  • Responsible for putting in place policies and processes standardized across all St. Elizabeth entities within the consolidated financials.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice-President of Finance or the Chief Financial Officer.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance

Specialized Knowledge:

Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to analyze and review financial statements and related ratios and statistical information. Ability to research proper accounting treatment of unusual items and forecasting and budgeting skills.

Kind and Length of Experience:

At least 8 years of accounting in a medium to large organization with multiple locations and complex accounting issues. Managerial and Supervisory experience is also required.
