Medical Billing Specialist Pay Range:

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education and experience as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Medical Billing Specialist Summary: The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for the submission of insurance claims and collection of payments for clinical services, denial management and oversees client collections.

Medical Billing Specialist Education: Must meet the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Continued education or experience in accounts receivable (preferred)

Medical Billing Specialist Experience: Experience to demonstrate the competencies to identify precipitating events:

  • Two years business experience with extensive use of business machines and computers.
  • Experience working with private insurance companies, Medicaid, and Medicare.

Medical Billing Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all procedures relating to accounts receivable including billing, service authorizations, posting of payments and receipts, monthly statements, insurance and client refunds, monthly closing, and accounts receivable aging.
  • Responsible for private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and direct client billing.
  • Processes all financial assistance applications and insure client eligibility.
  • Handle phone calls from clients, when appropriate; escalates calls to supervisor, when required.
  • Completes all necessary reports and follows up as necessary to ensure payment for services with insurance companies and private payment.
  • Responsible to provide accurate information to Operations and Finance on the collection on past due accounts. Follows agency policies and procedures regarding collections and works with the agency's collection service when necessary.
  • Responsible to send out client statements on a set monthly schedule.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Carries out other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Operations.
