Position Summary:

This position is for an Assistant Research Scientist in the Department of Infectious Diseases, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia.Applicant is expected to work closely with Prof. Stephen Trent (PI) conducting research related to understanding the bacterial cell envelope. The applicant will be responsible for experimental design, data analyses, interpretation, project management, and results summarization. Applicant is expected to write research publications on the research they conduct and also to contribute to grant proposals. Applicant is also expected to assist with mentoring students in the laboratory.

Additional Requirements:

Candidates must be proficient in multiple aspects of next-gen sequencing. This includes Tn-seq, a method that couples including random transposon (Tn) mutagenesis couple with next-gen sequencing (Tn-seq).

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification:

Applicant should have 8+ years of research experience on studies of the bacterial cell envelope in the context of two key areas; experience with systems responsible for the synthesis and transport of Gram-negative lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and pathways required for the assembly and recycling of Gram-negative peptidoglycan. Experience should include engineering strains in both Escherichia coli and Acinetobacter baumannii.
