Position Summary:

The Department of Entertainment and Media Studies seeks applicants who take critical, cultural, historical and/or qualitative approaches to the innovative study of screen-entertainment cultures and media studies. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
This position carries a 2/2 teaching load. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in specific areas of expertise, teaching responsibilities will include 1-2 theoretical, methodological and/or substantive required core courses for majors. Mentoring of graduate students and direction of theses and dissertations, and service on department, college and university committees is expected.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification:

  • Evidence of at least the beginnings of a program of significant and original scholarly research of screen-entertainment cultures from cultural, critical, historical and/or qualitative perspectives of sufficient quantity and quality to meet the expectations of a Research I institution.
  • Minimum one year of university-level experience as the instructor of record teaching classes in screen cultures in entertainment media.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • Research areas in screen entertainment that include but are not limited to audience, fan and/or creator cultures; social-media visual-entertainment narrative (production as well as study); and economic, labor, technological and creative implications of emergent artificial intelligence in entertainment media.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the emergence, development and scholarly debates in fields of media studies and mass communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach social-media visual narrative production.
