Shift: Rotating - Normal duty hours for the positions shall be 0700-1930 or 1900-0730 Monday thru Sunday to include weekends and holidays

Degree/Education:

Degree/Education. Registered Nurses shall have an Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree from theAccreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). A copy of the college transcript and diploma shall be submitted.

Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: All HCW(s) shall maintain current certification in a basic provider cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course through the American Heart Association (AHA), Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) from the American Red Cross (ARC). Web-based classes do not meet the MTF standards. Neonatal Resuscitation Provider- Advanced; and STABLE, to be renewed every two years as required. Contract nurse employees may attend MAMC BLS and ALS recertification if space is available and at the discretion of the department COR. Attendance is in a non- billable status only.

Experience: At least one (1) year of qualifying experience in the specialty is required.

Board Certification: None

Licensure: Shall have and maintain a current, valid, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse (with no limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions) in any U.S. jurisdiction within the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam or the US Virgin Islands as required in the TO. All licenses must be unencumbered and remain in effect during contract employment. The contractor shall provide the COR prime source verification of the nursing license, documentation shall include state, license number, expiration date, me1hod of verification and names of verifying official.

SPECIALITY REQUIREMENTS:

All personnel performing under this contract action shall remain employees of the Contractor, but shall perform services under the technical supervision of the Chief of the Department or their Government representative. Neither military (active or reserve) nor Government civilian personnel shall be employed to perform services under this contract action. The MTF Commander, Deputy Director for Nursing, and Chief of Inpatient Service Line reserve the right to refuse the services of contract staff based on the lack of certification, credentials, licensure, or background checks.

Required Qualifications:

A thorough knowledge of electronic fetal/uterine monitoring (placement, maintenance and interpretation) is required.

Job Responsibilities.

Contract nurses providing services under this contract shall perform the same clinical duties as those required of any military or government civil service nurse of similar experience assigned to the same unit. Contract personnel may be designated by MAMC Department of Nursing Service personnel to provide charge nurse responsibilities, team lead, provide orientation, and other activities as deemed appropriate. All nurses may be rotated throughout MAMC’s clinical areas however they will not be required to work outside their scope of practice.

Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals. Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness. Perform critical care duties to include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating age-specific nursing care across all ages.

Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.

Perform physical exam and health histories.

Provide health promotions, counseling, and education.

Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.

Direct and supervise care provide by other healthcare professionals.

Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.

Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.

Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.

Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.

Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes.

Provide comprehensive professional neonatal care to critically ill neonatal patients in the NICU. The NICU RNs are responsible for infants throughout tour of duty and have extensive knowledge and experience and have the skill for concentrated effort and are self–motivating to carry out patient care requirements.

Responsible for caring for infants with a variety of respiratory support devices such as oscillators, vents, iNO, CPAP, SIPAP, nasal cannula and trach tubes.

Participate in the development and updating of patient care plan.

Monitor IV fluids, blood and blood products, check rate, volume and insertion site. Perform neonatal catheter care. Change fluid containers and tubing. Recognize potential problems and take corrective action.

Perform basic infant care procedures, lifting, turning, transporting and positioning. Providing personal hygiene care, changes linens, clothing and feeds infants to include NG/ OG, PO, G-tube feedings.

Support, assist and instruct breast feeding Mothers to promote maximum nutritional needs based on Mothers’ desire to breast feed.

Set up or assist in setting up and use specialized equipment such as ventilator support oxygen delivery systems, drainage suction devices, hypothermic units and infusion pumps.

Mix and administer prescribed medication orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intravenously, topically, etc., and knows which drugs shall alter the effects of another drug if administered concurrently prior to the administration of medication.

Serve as a resource person whom other critical care nurses and other health providers consult when particularly difficult problems in care of critically ill patients arise.

Serves as a member of the Neonatal Resuscitation Team; attends high-risk deliveries and initiates neonatal resuscitative measures as directed

Performs other duties as assigned and in accordance with this PWS
