Summary of the Shop Laborer position:
Location: Hastings, Nebraska
Schedule: Monday - Thursday 6 AM - 4:30 PM (overtime on Fridays when required)
Compensation: $25/hour
Job Type: Temporary-to-Permanent
Perks: Pay increase upon being hired on permanently and eligibility for comprehensive benefits package
Responsibilities of the Shop Laborer:
Follow written and verbal instructions, demonstrating basic math, reading and writing skills.
Work collaboratively in a team environment to achieve project goals.
Operate blasting equipment to remove rust, scale, paint and foreign materials from railcars.
Inspect railcars before and after the blasting process ensuring cleanliness and dryness.
Cover sensitive railcar components with protective materials to prevent damage during blasting.
Perform surface preparation using various blast media methods on non-finished railcars and components.
Conduct general inspections of railcars for finishing application readiness.
Change hose sizes and nozzles as necessary for optimal equipment performance.
Clean, maintain and store equipment properly ensuring efficient operation.
Assist painters with tasks related to the finishing process.
Set up and operate hand and power tools including grinders, wire and sanding discs.
Work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
Comfortably work at heights and in confined spaces utilizing safety harnesses as needed.
Qualifications for the Shop Laborer position:
Fearless attitude towards heights and confined spaces.
Ability to follow directions and work in a team environment.
Basic math, reading and writing skills.
Previous experience with blasting equipment and surface preparation is a plus.
Comfortable with physical tasks and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Flexibility to work overtime on Fridays when required.
