GENERAL PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this position is to provide instruction which fosters students' academic achievement, and to maintain a challenging and constructive learning environment in the classroom. In discharging their instructional and administrative responsibilities, faculty are to observe the definitions, practices, policies, and procedures published in the College Catalog, Employee Handbook, and Faculty Handbook. Faculty members report to their Program Director. When a faculty member teaches in more than one department, he or she is expected to report any issues to the Program Director of the course(s) involved.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES/PRIMARY DUTIES:

1. Prepare and submit to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Director a copy of the syllabus of each course assigned for the current quarter.

2. Teach the assigned, scheduled subjects in a professional and diligent manner, exercising good judgment while doing so. All content created or developed under this position is the intellectual property of Beckfield College.

3. Be present, ready to begin teaching at the scheduled starting time for each class, and to hold each and every class until the scheduled ending time, or for online courses, have all virtual classroom content available as scheduled.

4. Attend and participate in faculty meetings, orientation, registration, and graduation, and in-service sessions.

5. Provide copies of the syllabus to all students for review in the first meeting of each course assigned.

6. Conduct all classes in accordance with the course syllabus, the class schedule, and all instructional materials adopted for the course.

7. Conduct himself or herself professionally in representing the College, its constituents, its students, and his or her discipline.

8. Instruct students and evaluate their performance carefully and equitably.

9. Provide instruction for the full period scheduled, with appropriate intermissions.

10. Evaluate the performance of students in a manner consistent with the course objectives and grading criteria published in the course syllabus.

11. Require graded assignments frequently enough to provide regular notification to students of their progress, and return all assignments as promptly as possible.

12. Maintain complete and accurate records of students' grades and attendance.

13. Refer students to appropriate College resources for information or advising, as appropriate.

14. Submit course grades and attendance records promptly as they are requested, and perform other administrative duties as required.

15. Participate in the evaluation of courses or curricula and make recommendations to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Director.

16. Participate in the development of the College's library by recommending resources appropriate to courses assigned or to the curriculum in general.

17. Participate in activities which promote his or her professional development and provide documentation of this participation to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Director.

18. Submit all annual documentation to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Director in a timely manner when requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of associate degree, along with 3 years of verifiable, practical Diagnostic Medical Sonography experience in at least abdominal and/or obstetrics & gynecology sonography
Experience in teaching methodology, supervision, instruction, and evaluation strongly preferred
Excellent teaching & communication skills, along with a helpful disposition necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students and staff
Be knowledgeable, mature, and concerned with the academic progress of students.
Be cooperative and professional in dealing with college administrators, colleagues, and students.
Ability to provide service to a diverse population, to operate specialized equipment, audio-visual aids, and to develop lecture strategies to enhance teaching effectiveness.
Proficient in utilizing a personal computer and Microsoft Office

EXPERIENCE : Faculty/Instructional Staff must:

1) be qualified by education and experience: (a) minimum of associate degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education or Council for Higher Education Accreditation; (b) minimum of 3 years of practical experience in Diagnostic Medical Sonography field, with specialty in at least abdominal and/or obstetrics & genecology sonography

2) hold current, active, & good standing ARDMS credential

3) hold additional certification is area of sonographic specialty, if required by professional practice standards

EDUCATION : Associates Degree in Sonography; licensure or certification in-field and/or specialty; in current standing with ARDMS.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sitting for extended periods of time. Daily use of computer, phone, and other office equipment. Lifting (max about 10 pounds), minimal reaching, bending and stooping .

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Typical school/office environment.
