Overview

The John H. Pace, Jr '39 Center for Civic Engagement makes service and civic engagement a central part of the Princeton student educational experience, supporting students learning through sustained community engagement, experiential learning, and programs that introduce students to communities. The Pace Center's work is guided by a set of partnership principles as well as a student learning framework that centers equity, empathy, and empowerment. The Pace Center annually welcomes half of the incoming class of undergraduate students through Community Action as well as offers robust sustained student-led and community-centered service programming through Community House, Student Volunteers Council and other programs and initiatives.

The Program Coordinator supports students engagement in service opportunities by coordinating the operational systems, logistical needs, as well as ensuring compliance with University and/or community partner policies for students participating in sustained community engagement programming through Community Action, a multi-day small-group experience program of Princeton Orientation; Community House, community-centered programs emphasizing holistic youth development through tutor-mentorship relationships and for providing tools for academic success as well as enhancing social-emotional literacy in youth participants; Student Volunteers Council, which empowers Princeton students to provide direct service to local non-profits in a number of different fields, including health, education, mentorship, arts, STEAM, special needs, and hunger & homelessness; and other programs as directed.

Evening and weekend work is required at times to ensure successful programming.

Responsibilities

Coordinate logistics of sustained community engagement programs

  • Coordinate key logistical components in collaboration with Pace Center colleagues as well as University offices, community partners, and external vendors for Community Action, Community House, Student Volunteers Council and other programs including, but not limited to: calendar coordination; transportation; supply ordering and management; meal ordering (with special attention to accommodation needs); space reservations; participant and community partner monitoring and tracking; communications including website maintenance; monitoring and timely response to program emails; coordinate annual evaluation and assessment surveys in collaboration with Pace Center colleagues for both students and community partners.
  • Track volunteer rosters, volunteer compliance and active projects for sustained community engagement programs and ensure information is entered into and up-to-date on websites, spreadsheets and engagement and collaboration platforms.
  • Communicate and make transparent the requirements and necessary compliance steps for student participants in Community Action, Community House, and Student Volunteers Council, as well as other direct service volunteer and student-led projects as assigned.
  • Monitor students completion of necessary trainings, paperwork, background checks, and fingerprinting as required by University and/or community partner policies.
  • Maintain a system for tracking student participant compliance with University policies and/or community partner policies especially for those students working with minors or other vulnerable populations.

Volunteer Compliance and Tracking

  • Track volunteer rosters, volunteer compliance and active projects for sustained community engagement programs and ensure information is entered into and up-to-date on websites, spreadsheets and engagement and collaboration platforms.
  • Communicate and make transparent the requirements and necessary compliance steps for student participants in Community Action, Community House, and Student Volunteers Council, as well as other direct service volunteer and student-led projects as assigned.
  • Monitor students completion of necessary trainings, paperwork, background checks, and fingerprinting as required by University and/or community partner policies.

Assist with planning and provide logistical support

  • Provide planning assistance and day-of logistical support for Community Action, Community House, Student Volunteers Council, and other direct service and student-led volunteer programs, events, and initiatives as identified (evening and weekend work required as needed).
  • Manage Community House tutoring spaces located at 58 Prospect Ave, 3rd Floor including, but not limited to coordinating use, coordinating maintenance and space readiness for events.
  • Contribute and participate in sustained community engagement team, Pace Center working groups and University committees as assigned.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 3+ years of related work experience
  • Strong time management, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated expertise with administrativesoftware such as MS Office, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Google suite of products, Slack, CampusGroups, among others.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technology and systems.
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively and as an active member of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Knowledge of trauma informed practices and pedagogy related to working with vulnerable populations and under served communities.

Preferred

  • Experience working in higher education setting.
  • Experience with volunteer management.
  • Spanish language fluency.
