Raytheon is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer to support our teams in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. You will work within the Air & Missile Defense Software Department on the Patriot Fire Unit Software Development Team. Patriot is the world's pre-eminent air defense system, and we are currently developing Patriot software in support of new system capabilities. We strive for technical excellence by drawing upon a diverse workforce whose knowledge base covers the complete spectrum of modern languages and computing platforms.

What You Will Do

  • Participate in the requirements, design, development and testing of real-time embedded software, application software, and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancement of existing applications and systems.
  • Design, code, test, integrate, and document software solutions.
  • Participate in internal review of software components and systems.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other professionals within Engineering.
  • Follow established development practices and processes to maintain the configuration management of software products.
  • This position requires onsite presence and extensive interaction with other groups including Systems Design engineering and the Software Development Team.
  • Light travel may be required.
  • Off hours testing (2nd or 3rd shift) occasionally may also be required.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 5 years of experience.
  • Experience in Software Engineering.
  • Experience with C, C++, or Java.
  • Experience in a Unix/Linux operating system.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, systems software design, operating systems, architectures, software development life cycle and processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including ability to produce technical documentation, and the desire to learn new technologies and tools.
  • Experience developing software in a team-based development environment, preferably Agile/SCRUM, DevOps and test automation.
  • Prior experience within Patriot software is highly desirable. Familiarity with Raytheon software development process is also helpful.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
