Overview: The Director of Memory Care is responsible for meeting Inspīr standards and practices and satisfying state regulations for memory care and programming. The Director of Memory Care is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of all memory care programs and ensuring its programs are therapeutic to the residents and maximize their quality of life. The Director of Memory Care will also ensure accurate, timely, and professional delivery of memory care services to all residents and must uphold the Inspīr philosophy and values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assesses resident, family and staff needs across the community, and develops strategic and operational plans for the provision of resident memory care and the delivery of those clinical services and
  • Oversees all aspects of resident care and clinical services, nursing care, ancillary services, provider partners and care-related aspects of quality assurance, regulatory compliance, safety and risk management and resident/family/staff
  • Leads, inspires and manages all other Directors of Residents Services and care teams across the community, to promote best practices in memory care and to ensure optimal delivery of care and clinical services to all
  • Facilitates and follows evidence-based Standard of Practice, performance standards, and standardized workflows to ensure optimal efficacy, efficiency and outcomes related to memory care.
  • Collaborates with the General Manager to develop strategy, business plans and budgets that focus on all aspects of clinical and facility operations including setting priorities, staffing models, reducing costs, and maximizing revenue while ensuring outstanding care and
  • Works collaboratively with other Department Heads to develop priorities and goals to address resident memory care needs throughout the community.
  • Plays a lead role in addressing and resolving policy or regulatory infractions or violations identified by staff or state regulators, including developing and implementing action plans, corrective measures and new policies or SOPs.
  • Uses Key Performance Indicators and business analytics to set goals, drive strategy, inform planning and monitor performance of the clinical departments
  • Performs regular audits to ensure that each clinical department is meeting all Inspire, as well as state standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversees the Memory Care Program and ensures it meets all state, federal and other regulations
  • Ensures that all associates working on a memory care neighborhood have completed orientation and dementia training, including 8 hours of Habilitation Therapy training.
  • Responsible for providing Heart Philosophy Training, basics of dementia and wandering and elopement overview during new hire orientation.
  • Responsible for providing monthly dementia in-service training to all associates.
  • Supervise Integrated Care Team and monitor performance and dementia-oriented approach by providing mentoring, coaching and/or counseling as needed
  • Must adhere to all applicable compliance requirements and Inspīr safety policies and procedures including but not limited to: understanding and mastering state regulations and ensuring compliance at all times; completing required compliance training in a timely manner; reviewing Code of Conduct at least annually and promoting it in the workplace; Promoting Inspir’s compliance program in the workplace; adhering to Inspīr’s Policy and Procedures; reporting, promptly and in good faith, any instances of suspected fraud, waste and abuse; suspected privacy and/or security incidents, or any other compliance concerns; and ensuring confidentiality of resident PHI and company proprietary
  • Responsible for the overall coordination and management of resident care and services for residents, including the supervision of the Resident Services Department through the following
  • Move-in Process (when applicable):
    • Pre-move-in assessments, review of paperwork and initial Service Plan Development
    • Coordinates new resident move-in process with support of management team, including all required paperwork, unit readiness, resident requests and welcome event
    • Assessment and Service Plan:
    • Identify needs for additional assessment, health monitoring or other coordination of care needs
    • Service Plan review Process
    • Coordinate resident’s health care in collaboration with residents, families and outside health care agencies, including referral when indicated
    • Conducts regular Service Plan Reviews with residents’ families, including meetings with responsible parties and including appropriate staff whenever changes in care levels occur.
    • Staff Training, Education and Supervision
    • Coordinates and participates in initial job-specific orientation and training through routine review of training documents, in accordance with policies and procedures
    • Coordinates and conducts continuing training and education on a regular basis for all care staff, as identified through routine auditing
    • Reviews documentation and communication of Resident Care Services associates
    • Supervises all wellness personnel in the delivery of nursing services and assistance with proper, accurate documentation
    • Responsible for Resident Care Service staffing schedules
    • Delegation
      • Provides RN delegation, in accordance with state regulations and community policy.
      • Available after-hours for issues related to current residents’ needs or resident emergencies; may be required to come into the community or conduct offsite assessment at these times.
    • Infection Control
      • Maintains compliance with community policies on Immunizations, Infection Control and Infectious Disease Management.
    • Move Out/Discontinuation of Services
      • Assists residents who no longer require services
    • Quality Assurance
      • Completes routine auditing of all Resident Care systems,
      • Services Review Schedule and all other associate QA tools activities

Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience
  • Must hold either licensing of a Registered Nurse or a Master of Social Work
  • Experience working with seniors, including those with complex memory care needs including dementia
  • Minimum of 7 years management experience in adult home, assisted living or skilled nursing in the State of New York
  • Oral and Written Comprehension and Expression - Must be able to convey and understand information and ideas in English
  • Excellent customer service and ability to emotionally connect with residents, their families, peers and associates
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with residents, their families, peers and associates
  • Mathematical Reasoning - Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions
  • Utilize technology as a means of communication necessary to support resident needs and ensure operational compliance as well as resident safety and security
  • Working knowledge of aging and disability-related concerns for the elder adult population
