Job Description SummaryThe Military Materials & Processes Section Leader for Edison Works Engineering will lead all aspects of the section including lead division-wide materials strategy, technology roadmaps, and all materials science related initiatives. This role will partner with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders to develop and mature next generation material systems for military application.

Job Description

Additionally, as the Military Materials & Processes Section Leader, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership and oversight for developing, industrializing and scaling the current and next generation of materials sciences, research, development, and processes for military products
  • Functional responsibility for the partnership between Engineering and Supply Chain, to include closely partnering with peer Design and Systems Engineering Leaders in D&S, while also keeping up with best practices across Aerospace Engineering
  • Key member of the Edison Works Engineering Staff providing guidance, leadership, mentoring and intervention, as necessary, to strengthen the discipline, safety, quality, reliability and rigor of our military NTI/NPI work.
  • Extended member of the Engineering Material Systems Department staff, providing guidance, leadership, mentoring and intervention, as necessary, to strengthen the discipline, safety, quality, reliability and rigor of our engineering work across Aerospace Engineering
  • Develop and execute strategy to obtain external funding to accelerate materials development in line with business objectives and strategies.
  • Provide leadership with high integrity and oversight of processes protecting Intellectual Property, Export Controlled and Strategic Technology
  • Drive the development and application of consistent design practices and sharing of design best practices.
  • Ensure a rigorous process is followed in the execution of Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action of product and process issues including system level testing.
  • Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component teams.
  • Manages interface between components and doing organizations.
  • Responsible for driving CTQ / Risk trades within the teams designing the components.
  • Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system (manages the how)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related technical leadership experience in Design, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance

Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or Materials Engineering preferred.
  • Prior experience with a focus on managing technical programs and designing and developing new products related to solving product issues preferred.
  • Prior experience with New Product Development (NPI) process, Lean Principles, industrialization methodologies preferred.
  • Strong coaching expertise and success in working across the business functions, other GE businesses, and the global teams.
  • Strong business acumen
  • Strong customer mindset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Lean Six Sigma training preferred.
