Aftermarket Apprentice Program (AAP)

The purpose of the apprentice program is to provide an opportunity for selected applicants to combine work experience, on-the-job training, and classroom instruction to learn the skills required to support customers after product delivery and provide G&W with a skilled employee. Upon completion of the apprenticeship, there will be a review of the department needs and a determination of best fit for permanent assignment.

Length of Program

The program is 1 year in length. Approximately 168 of the 250 working days will be OJT in the work cells. The remainder of the time will be training with the product support specialists, field service technicians, and RGA team. At the end of the year-long rotation, the apprentice will return to their respective work cell and be "on call" for an AMS position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manages assigned cases through SFDC through resolution, coordinating with technical and commercial resources as appropriate.
  • Provides technical phone and email support to customers and sales representatives in both written and verbal form.
  • Work with the Product Support Administrator to generate orders for parts replacements and generate RMAs for returned goods.
  • Initiates Upgrade/Retrofit projects.
  • Coordinates customer calls with technical resources within the Company when problem solving a reported issue. As the facilitator, documents the meeting discussion and action items.
  • Generates CIIs for repetitive or life safety issues.
  • Rotates with the other Product Support Specialists on the after-hours hot-line.
  • Participates on New Product Development teams representing the Aftermarket Support Plan.

Responsibility of the Apprentice

Apprentices agree to the following terms and conditions of the program:
  • Perform to the best of their ability the work of aftermarket and other pertinent responsibilities as assigned by G&W
  • Respect G&W's property/tools and abide by all rules and policies
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete the required classroom hours and in related instruction in subjects required of the program. A grade of ‘C' or better in all course work is required.
  • Maintain and make available records of work experience and training received on the job and in related instruction

Required Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree in Electronics or equivalent experience
  • Highly effective communication skills required to influence at all levels inside and outside of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and reassess as necessary
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Must travel wherever needed, possibly on short notice and weekends. Travel will be required up to 10% of the time. Field service positions generally require 50-70 percent travel, where product support requires up to 10 percent.
  • Maintain focus on results despite changing conditions. Must have a sense of urgency and confidence to handle a variety of challenges and make critical decisions.

Hours of work

The apprentice will attend class on days. The on-the-job instruction will take place mainly on first shift.

Reimbursement for classroom instruction

Any course work required from an external source will be provided through the educational assistance program. All rules and regulation of that policy will apply. External coursework is expected to be limited and spread throughout the year.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is required at all classes as dictated by the course syllabus.

Progressions and continuation in the program are highly dependent on a good attendance record.

Repayment requirements

Repayment guidelines will be dictated by the Educational Assistance Program.
