Job Summary:
Our client in the Cherry Creek neighborhood of Denver, CO, is seeking an Interim Portfolio Controller to join their temporary task team. This role involves improving, establishing, managing, and maintaining accounting functions for multiple existing properties until a permanent employee is hired. The engagement may span multiple phases and continue on a rolling basis.
The ideal candidate will have an advanced grasp on accounting in the hospitality industry and its several unique aspects due to the sector's specific operational characteristics and revenue streams. Here are some of the key differences and unique challenges: Revenue Management, Cost Control, Labor Costs, Fixed and Variable Costs, Customer Payments and Deposits, Regulatory Compliance, Financial Reporting, Capital Expenditures and Depreciations, Performance Metrics, and Technology Integration.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Establish or enhance accounting functions for multiple existing properties, with the possibility of transitioning the task team to additional phases as more properties are added to the portfolio.
- Oversee and manage the financial operations of the portfolio, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.
- Conduct financial audits and ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with Corporate to develop and implement financial strategies and initiatives.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
- Manage cash flow and financial planning to ensure the portfolios’ financial stability.
- Liaise with external auditors, regulatory bodies, and financial institutions as required.
- Provide financial training and guidance to property staff to enhance financial literacy and adherence to policies.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred, not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management within the Hospitality Industry with an advanced understanding of Revenue Management, Cost Control, Labor Costs, Fixed and Variable Costs, Customer Payments and Deposits, Regulatory Compliance, Financial Reporting, Capital Expenditures and Depreciations, Performance Metrics, and Technology Integration.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems – Dynamics GP
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Competitive Pay rate based on experience and qualifications = $45-65 / hour
- Full-time Contract: 3-6 months in duration with potential to extend or converted to a permanent role.
