JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Dean of Upper School is responsible for overseeing all educational and co-curricular programs, supporting community outreach and student/family relations, and upholding high rates of enrollment/retention for grades 6-12 at Laurel Springs School. The Dean of Upper School reports to the Director of Teaching and Learning. The Dean of Upper School must be a thought leader in the field of education and is informed and knowledgeable about the grade 6-12 education technology market. This person must have exceptional leadership skills, a solid background in teaching, supervision, and professional development, along with the ability to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders. The Dean of Upper School is a virtual full-time position, but may spend up to 25% of the calendar year traveling to attend in-person meetings, conferences, events, and to work collaboratively with managers, specialists, coordinators, and teachers in the field.
 
JOB DUTIES:
Duties include, but are not limited to:

Hiring, onboarding, supervising, training, evaluating, and coaching Academic Department Chairs (ADCs).
Partnering with ADCs to hire and supervise new faculty. 
Partnering with the Teaching & Learning team to develop and provide professional development to employed faculty.
Managing quality control and data collection related to grades 6-12 teaching and learning practices, curricular and co-curricular program development, family/student outreach, and retention.
Overseeing the process for academic integrity and implementation of the LSS Honor Code in grades 6-12.
Supervising the Academy Education Manager and partnering with the Academy Education Manager to oversee all aspects of the Academy program.
Assist ADCs with the billing process for grades 6-12 independent contractor teachers.
Partnering with the Community Engagement team and the Academy Education Manager to coordinate co-curricular and community programming for all students grades 6-12.
Coordinating with the ADCs, Academy Education Manager, Dean of Curriculum, and the Curriculum Team to support revision, design, and development of grades 6-12 curriculum materials in all content areas.
Collaborating with the ADCs, Advising team and Counseling team to make determinations about course placement, accommodations, and discipline matters.
Coordinating with other departments or teams as needed to support Upper School students’ academic, social, and learning needs and overall student retention.
Partnering with the Dean of Lower School to build connections and shared programming between the Lower School and Middle/Upper School programs, including the Academy.
Developing and coordinating the Upper School Summer Program.
Implementing school-wide academic initiatives, goals, projects, and policies in grades 6-12.
Assisting ADCs in holding faculty accountable for identifying and creating the best online teaching and learning experiences for LSS students.
Participating in any accreditation process for Laurel Springs School.
Gathering and presenting data and information to LSS and SEG leadership when requested.
Promote a positive school culture focused on the unique needs and educational environment of online/distance students.
Representing LSS at educational conferences and associations as requested.
Performing other duties as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Advanced degree in education or related field strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience with curriculum and instructional design, people and team dynamics, program management, and teacher development.
Demonstrated leadership experience and skills; demonstrated successful experience as a school administrator strongly preferred.
3+ years of teaching experience in grades 6-12 schools; previous experience in online teaching is strongly preferred.
Experience with educational research, data collection, and educational product/program implementation and development.
Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, and conflict management skills.
