The Welder II performs a variety of welding processes using electric resistance, oxyacetylene, or plasma-arc torches. Welds commonly used metals and alloys of various shapes, sizes, thicknesses, etc. Selects welding electrodes for specific weld to ensure penetration and fusion of base and filler metals. Fabricate or repairs products according to blueprints, layouts, or work orders by welding metal components together. Possesses a working knowledge of welding materials and equipment. High school education or equivalent and welding certification required, and five years experience. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use modification and welding (minimum AWS 1G/2G/3G/4G/5G/6G level) skills to fabricate and weld structural steel ladder weldments and other components
Perform welding operations according to blue prints, company standards and applicable AWS standards to meet third party inspection critera in accordance with NFPA requirments
Ability to understand heat affected weld processes, have the skills and practices needed to complete welding and critical heating to straighten large welded componets to required tolerances
Fabricate components from raw stock, as needed
Read and follow detailed operator instructions, installation drawings, blueprints, weld symbols etc.
Understand, and be able to articulate, the production flow of an assigned product line or area
Assist in creation and development of standard work - SOS, JES and WPS
Self-check work and inspect prior processes, provide support to other team members by checking their work to be sure quality standards and best practices are met.
Assist and train new team members on weld fabrication processes and methods in accordance with WPS, PQR and standard weld practices
Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
Meet production goals
Maintain a clean and safe work area
Initiate process improvements
Support 5S in work area
Lead / perform lean events
Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues
Solve complex problems with minimal assistance

QUALIFICATIONS:
8+ years related experience
Decision making required
Responsible for and verifies product quality
Initiative and self-motivation required and demonstrated
Uses basic/specialized tools and equipment safely and effectively
Excellent attendance
Positive attitude
Strong and consistent attention to detail
Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task
Team oriented
Basic computer skills are required
Must be able to pass required welding certification test in the following AWS material sections: D1.1, D1.2, D1.3, D1.6, and D9.1.
Previous experience and/or certifications preferred
Must understand AWS welding symbols
Must be able to set up, adjust, and maintain welding machines
Must be able to Mig or Tig weld steel, stainless, and aluminum as needed
Willing to:
Learn and rotate within various weld areas
Wear PPE respirators for extended amount of time
Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
Develop a working knowledge of Spartan's systems


Able to:
Read and comprehend blue prints including weld specifications at a high level
Exhibit competency in mathematics, and use of measurement tools & equipment
Work overtime on short notice
