Master's Degree or above from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or another related field which includes a practicum in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. If the practicum did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual's written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues.   Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 1 year of clinical experience;   Associate's degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 2 years of clinical experience.
Substance abuse counselors in training who are not CADC shall be enrolled in courses leading to certification as a CADC in addiction to in-service training and become credentialed within three years of the date of hire by the facility; in addition to a semiannual review of progress while employed at the facility. 
Ensure the completion of patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other essential documentation in accordance with applicable federal and state standards and agency policies and procedures.
Provide patients with orientation regarding objectives of the program, phase system requirements, rules and regulations, sanctions, hours of services, patient rights, and additional information to help patients adjust to the program. 
Assure each patient is assessed and placed according to the treatment phases in accordance with Federal and State standards and agency policies. 
Assure all clinical documentation and patient charts updated in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Arrange referrals to other agencies and resources in the community when appropriate.
Participate in case conferences and case reviews in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Collection and testing of urine/swab drug screening following proper chain of custody. 
Secure necessary documentation from patients, when appropriate, to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. 
Attend team meetings and complete all training courses timely as required.
Bachelors or better in Human Services or related field
