The National Institute of Building Sciences is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit, non- governmental organization that supports advances in building science and technology. We were established by the U.S. Congress in the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, Public Law 93-383. Congress recognized the need for an organization to serve as an interface between government and the private sector – one that serves as a resource to those who plan, design, procure, construct, use, operate, maintain, renovate, and retire physical facilities.

 

We bring together experts from throughout the building industry, design, architecture, construction, and government. We lead conversations to ensure our buildings and communities remain safe, and we work to seek consensus solutions to mutual problems of concern.

 

SUMMARY

 

The Vice President of Business Strategies is responsible for defining and executing the business development and growth strategy for NIBS, specifically with a focus on Local, State, and Federal government. They develop and execute short-term and long-term strategic sales plans and tactics to identify and engage growth partners. The Vice President establishes strategic relationships with stakeholders that offer support to the organization, thus responsible for most of the revenue generation.

 

The individual is responsible for business development and works closely with other leaders and groups/departments  to increase revenue and overall support across all product and service lines.  They will create and maintain yearly budgets.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Builds out a robust sales and business development strategy for Local, State, and Federal government entities that drives success in meeting revenue goals.
  • Creates strategic plans and oversees the implementation of multiple programs and activities that provide continuous and multi-year revenue contributions.
  • Works with other work groups, teams, and departments within NIBS to ensure alignment of organizational goals and strategic priorities, as set by senior management, regarding the cultivation and maintenance of client relationships.
  • Coordinates with Senior Vice President, Technical and Government Solutions on potential business opportunities resulting from interactions with federal and other government entities and representatives.
  • Engages Senior Vice President, Technical and Government Solutions in business development plans.
  • Develops and maintains new and existing client relationships. Builds and manages long-term relationships with business partners. Develops and nurtures prospective relationships.
  • Leads sales activities, including developing leads, conducting strategic business meetings, preparing proposals, developing presentations, and negotiating terms in conjunction with the department which the revenue applies and finance.
  • Tracks prospect evolution, client retention, and client growth.
  • Collaborates cross-departmentally through internal discussions and external communication, to grow and diversify client engagement across NIBS’s lines of business.
  • Completes research, needs assessments, market and competitive analyses, and budget development to facilitate the evaluation of these opportunities.
  • Evaluates existing programs and makes recommendations for future direction based on an assessment of ROI, member, and market needs, and actual or expected changes in the business landscape.
  • Work with key internal staff to effectively implement/ fulfill programs sold to the clients.
  • Assists in the development of policies, and procedures.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field required.
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of proven sales and business development experience, with an emphasis on local, state, and federal government experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive revenue and meet or exceed sales goals.
  • Knowledge of appropriate business practices and procedures, including revenue and expense management, and a proven track record for revenue growth.
  • Proficiency in developing and administering strategic priorities, properly allocating resources, and providing effective leadership.
