Director,  Convention and Meetings

Alexandria healthcare association (close to the King Street Metro) is seeking an experienced Director, Conventions and Meetings.  Position will report to the Chief of Staff.  The candidate is responsible for the innovation, planning, budgeting, logistics and execution of our annual convention (2,500 attendees), multi-location meeting (350 attendees), annual congressional fly-in (350 attendees) and other ancillary meetings throughout the year (approximately 6 smaller meetings, less than 70 individuals).  The candidate oversees and supports all operational, budget and logistical activities for all meetings and event related activities and will liaise with a third-party events individual.  The candidate will work closely with our vendor partners to develop a unified approach to meeting and events management.  Expertise in hotel negotiations and contracts and all logistics pertaining to each meeting, registration oversite, assistance with final programming, coordination of website meeting development.  Work in tandem with sponsorship and exhibits team.

The ideal candidate must have excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills, along with being a team player, possess strong business acumen, able to multi-task, be responsive to requests, have the ability to evaluate, negotiate, coordinate and manage all vendor contracts, services and work with planning teams.  Supervisory experience a plus.  10+ years of conventions management experience required as well as appropriate meeting certifications, CMP a plus .  Excellent benefits; salary commensurate with experience.   Must be in the Washington metro area; hybrid work schedule, summer, in office Tuesday/Thursday, remote work Monday/Wednesday/Friday, winter in office Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, remote work on Monday/Friday.
