At the Port of Seattle, we anticipate making salary offers between the minimum and the market reference point of the salary range. Offers will be based on the skill, knowledge, and experience a job candidate brings to the job and is consistent with other employees performing the same or similar work.
As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will plan and perform a wide range of independent and objective risk-based audits to provide the Audit Committee and the Executive Director reasonable assurance that organizational controls are designed and operating effectively and efficiently.
- You will create, implement, and oversee the new Quality Management System required by the 2024 Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book) which evaluates the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of internal audit processes. You will also make recommendations to managers and the director and facilitate the triennial external review process.
- You will provide training and support to audit team members related to audit processes, procedures, professional audit standards, and relevant computer systems and applications.
- You will lead Internal Audit's Enterprise Risk Management process that subsequently drives the development of our audit plan.
- You will assist Internal Audit management in the development of the annual risk-based audit plan, monitor emerging risks that relate to the organization, and advise on how to remedy those risks.
- You will lead and perform risk-based performance audits in accordance with professional audit standards, from the audit announcement through creation of the final audit report, covering complex and technical subject matter of departments, systems, and programs in all divisions of the Port.
- You will communicate audit results and recommendations to stakeholders.
- You will conduct research in emerging technologies, trends, standards, and business practices, and use knowledge to make recommendations for improvement.
- You will conduct non-audit services, consulting engagements, and special projects, as periodically requested by Internal Audit management.
- Experienced - You have five (5) years of experience in Accounting or Finance, specifically in auditing.
- Desired - We hope you have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. We hope you are a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

- Expertise - You have extensive knowledge of professional auditing standards, including Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), specifically related to the new Quality Management System, and the Global Internal Audit Standards (IIA Red Book). You have familiarity with federal, state, and local rules and regulations. You also have knowledge of risk management concepts of internal controls and familiarity with electronic audit workpapers.
- Efficient Communicator - You possess effective verbal, written, and active listening communication skills. You write concise, organized, and clear communications to stakeholders and engage others in active, open, and productive communication. You also modify style and approach in response to changing environments, different perspectives, needs, or demands. You work collaboratively and effectively with diverse groups and individuals within, and external, to the Port.
- Strategic & Attention to Detail - You use good judgment and strong decision-making skills. You make independent decisions using critical- thinking. You also have strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
- Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Pier 69 with an option to work remotely on Thursday and Friday.
- Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
- Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
