The Director of Athletics Equipment plays a crucial role in supporting George Washington University's 20 varsity athletic programs by overseeing all aspects of equipment management. The primary responsibility will ensure that all ordering is done on a timely schedule to ensure student-athletes, coaches, and staff have access to high-quality, properly fitting, and well-maintained equipment and uniforms for practices and competitions. Responsibilities Serve as the primary liaison for partnerships with all equipment goods providers including the official athletic apparel provider (Adidas) and distributor (Game‑One); ensure compliance with contractual agreements, oversee ordering cycles, schedule and coordinate deliverables, and maintain open communication to address any issues or updates related to apparel and equipment needs. Collaborate with coaches and sports programs to identify their equipment and apparel needs. Place orders based on approved requirements, track the status of shipments, and provide timely updates to coaches regarding order progress, delays, or adjustments. Ensure all program needs met within budgetary and contractual guidelines. Oversee the ordering, inventory, maintenance, and distribution of all equipment, uniforms, and other gear for all athletic teams' practices and competitions. Partner with the athletic business office to develop and manage the budget for athletic equipment and supplies. Assist coaches in staying within their allocated budgets by providing guidance, oversight, and creative solutions to maximize resources. Ensure that all equipment, uniforms, and gear are inspected and maintained to ensure safety, proper fitment, and meet all equipment standards of the NCAA, A‑10, and other affiliated conferences. Replace and/or repair equipment that is not in proper condition. Work closely with coaches, athletics administrators, and apparel provider/distributor to design uniforms and practice gear that reflect the University's branding guidelines and identity. Hire, train, and supervise all full‑time, part‑time, and student managers to ensure proper coverage of all sports, including laundry services. Coordinate the packing, transportation, and distribution of equipment and athletic supplies to each sport program or internal department. The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or hold a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Additional Required Licenses / Certifications Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) certification, or the ability to obtain AEMA certification within one year of hire. Preferred Qualifications A bachelor's degree is highly desired. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in equipment management, preferably within an NCAA or professional environment. A solid understanding of NCAA rules and regulations related to equipment and compliance is valued. Proficiency in the use of equipment management software and inventory management systems is highly desired. Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills. Must be flexible and adaptable to a fluid work environment. Ability to routinely lift heavy objects over 50 lbs. desired. Work outside at times in weather conditions. Work days will consist of weekends, early, and late hours.
