The Lead Custodian provides leading day-to-day operational support to provide a safe, attractive, efficient and clean facility for visitors and employees of the Science Museum of Minnesota. The Supervisor is responsible for assigning, providing direction, supporting and inspecting the work that will be performed by the custodians on an assigned shift while keeping the team engaged and motivated. The incumbent will perform routine work according to the operational schedule provided by the Custodial Manager.

Ensure smooth, efficient operation according to department processes. Provide support and direct tasks to the custodian team to promote cleanliness and safety throughout the building, equipment and museum premises. Ensure that cleaning checklists and daily assignments are completed during the shift. Assist in proper cleaning tasks.

Coordinate and prioritize tasks to successfully accomplish projects with limited time andresources. Reassign and adjust crews to respond to special facility operations or unforeseen situations. Use all available resources to effectively and efficiently ensure accurate, timely and complete delivery of work.

Instruct and train custodial team in proper custodial cleaning practices and safety standards.

Identify quality deficiencies in employees work areas and provide instant feedback.

Inspect all areas of facility, including restrooms, stairwells and open locations for cleanliness and unusual activity to maintain clean safe public and business spaces throughout shift.

Act as a liaison between custodian and security on overnights.

Ensure safe and proper cleaning methods are used while attending to situations that involve exposure to bodily fluids and other hazardous materials.

Report activities and unusual events to supervisor and team via memos, email and other daily logs. Report unsafe conditions (repairs), damages and acts of vandalism of equipment to proper channels of communication and authorities. Ensure proper and timely radio communication within the team while promoting professional and courteous etiquette. Inform supervisor of any possible violations of museum policies and procedures.

Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe, secure and orderly manner to ensure the safety of staff and the public. Distribute supplies to custodians as needed. Report supplies needed to management in timely manner.

Adapt to the needs of the situations and strive to assist in successfully meeting the needs of the museum and customer successfully. Attend to unexpected custodial requests immediately and efficiently with enthusiasm. Remain calm and professional when attending to cleaning requests that involve exposure to bodily fluids and other hazardous materials.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Computer Skills: Basic understanding of exploring the Internet, MS office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Experience: Proven custodial experience and previous supervisory experience required; preferably in the service industry. Previous experience providing training in cleaning practices, methods and operation of equipment to staff preferred.

Work Environment:Must be able to work inside and outside during periods of extreme heat and cold. Able to work a flexible shift, including nights and weekends, to accommodate the museum's needs.

Starting pay range is $19.27-$20.00/hour
