Assistant Corporation Counsel III – Affliative Litigation Division The City of Chicago’s Department of Law seeks an attorney to serve as Assistant Corporation Counsel III (ACC) in its Affliative Litigation Division (ALD). The ACC will investigate alleged misconduct, file litigation to protect the City’s interests under consumer‑protection ordinances and other laws, represent the City in qui tam litigation, and file lawsuits and amicus briefs in federal actions that affect the City. Responsibilities Investigate and file civil litigation to protect the interests of the City and its residents under consumer‑protection ordinances and other laws. Represent the City in qui tam actions alleging businesses submitted false claims to the City. File lawsuits and amicus briefs in federal actions that impact the City. Assist in drafting pleadings, substantive motions, and evidentiary documents; argue motions; take or defend depositions; and support jury or bench trials. Clerking for a state or federal court judge is acceptable experience. Qualifications At least one year of litigation experience in one or more of the following areas: drafting pleadings and other court documents, drafting substantive motions, arguing motions, taking or defending depositions, handling evidentiary hearings, assisting in jury or bench trials, or clerking for a state or federal court judge. Superior academic achievement. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to take initiative and assume responsibility for assigned tasks. Ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and control workflow to meet deadlines. Ability to work well with colleagues, client department representatives, and others. Commitment to public service. Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree, admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligibility for admission under Rule 705). Good standing with your state Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission.
