Component Engineering is leading the effort to design, test, and deliver advanced technologies for the next generation of reactor plant components. We are seeking a new team member to evaluate performance and assist in the design of prototype concepts and test hardware, using a combination of first-principles engineering and computational methods. The evaluations performed by the selected candidate will quantify the performance of both new and existing component technologies with a goal of maintaining the U.In this role, the selected candidate will be empowered to enhance their design, analysis, and collaboration skills through challenging work assignments, mentoring, and in-house training programs. The design and analysis results generated in this role will directly impact ongoing, highly visible technology development efforts. Job responsibilities may include mechanical design, modeling and analysis, and documenting the results of thermal, structural, fluid, and/or material performance evaluations of system components and equipment. Responsibilities may also include job automation, methods development, and integration with various testing communities and other engineering disciplines.





Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); Previous experience with thermal and/or structural finite element analysis (FEA) using ABAQUS, ANSYS, or other commercially-available modeling tools.



Fundamental understanding of engineering mechanics, fluids, heat transfer, and/or materials science.
Programming/scripting experience with Matlab, Python, and/or other languages is a plus.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
