Job SummaryOperations Research Analyst – City of New York (FDNY). This role reports to the Director of Data Quality & Industrial Engineering. The analyst will use industrial engineering and operations research techniques to optimize the department’s fire, medical, and emergency responses.ResponsibilitiesLead projects to streamline dispatch, fire and EMS resource optimization, call center processing, schedule optimization, and 9–1–1 demand modeling. Propose, simulate, and pilot data‑driven solutions in collaboration with GIS, Data Quality, Strategic Initiatives, and IT units. Maintain current engineering technologies, partner with academia, vendors, and produce peer‑review‑ready work. Communicate findings to stakeholders, manage cross‑functional teams, and support policy and programmatic changes that deliver measurable improvements.Minimum QualificationsMaster’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field.For Assignment Level II and above: Doctorate with one year of supervisory/research experience OR Master’s with three years of full‑time research experience in a relevant field.All candidates must have at least a master’s degree and two years of experience as described above.Preferred SkillsAdditional duties include cultivating relationships with stakeholders (Communications, Fire & EMS Operations), demonstrating analytical modeling with Python, R, SQL, and documenting mathematical equations and white papers. PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Management Science, Data Science, or a related field preferred.
