Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Machine Learning Infrastructure At Nuro, a self‑driving technology company founded in 2016, we are building the world’s most scalable driver, integrating AI with automotive‑grade hardware. Our mission is to make autonomy accessible to all, licensing the Nuro Driver for applications from robotaxis to personal vehicles. About the Role We’re seeking ML engineers to accelerate development progress and improve our ML developer experience. We need software engineers passionate about making teams and GPUs more productive. About the Work In this role you will design, build, and maintain tools to track our entire model development lifecycle—feature store, experiment tracking, and model registry. Responsibilities include: Implement tools to track the model development lifecycle for efficient deployment and evaluation. Develop issue detection and alerting mechanisms for critical ML services (training jobs, data pipelines, model deployments) to quickly detect issues and ensure high uptime. Maintain observability dashboards to track model performance, data quality, and system metrics. Champion best practices for robust, reproducible, and debuggable ML experimentation. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (perception, behavior, mapping, simulation) to identify infrastructure needs and integrate solutions across various domains for end‑to‑end ML solutions. Thoughtfully balance innovative exploration with practical considerations. About You 2+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent in a Masters/PhD with 2+ years of experience. Strong coding skills in Python or C++. Exposure to the ML development life cycle and ML models. Experience profiling and optimizing performance bottlenecks in distributed systems. Eager to overcome obstacles and accelerate development, making systems work better for the people who use them. Bonus Points Work experience designing, implementing, operating, or maintaining feature and model stores. Previous contributions to open source ML infrastructure projects or research publications in ML systems. Experience with PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow. Compensation Base pay ranges from $193,930 to $352,290 depending on experience, qualifications, location, and skills. The role also includes an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.
