As part of the Thermal Controls team, you are the thermal system integration lead that ensures optimal performance of thermal systems that make Tesla Energy products like Megapack, Supercharger and Powerwall world class. This role involves collaboration with multiple teams, including engineering, manufacturing, firmware, and service. It also requires the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to testing and integration of thermal systems that are at the core of Tesla’s success. What You’ll Do Develop and execute automated and manual tests to validate thermal system performance across various operating conditions Work closely with control and firmware engineers to validate and improve thermal control algorithms for all energy products Perform system validation of current and next generation Tesla Energy products Analyze fleet and test data to identify issues and recommend improvements Validate thermal system simulation results with experimental data Prepare technical reports and test summaries for stakeholders Work cross-functionally with controls, firmware, mechanical design, and reliability organizations What You’ll Bring Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent, or equivalent experience 2+ years of experience with thermal system integration Excellent understanding of Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, and thermal components (pumps, compressors, expansion valves, fans, etc.) Experience in working with hardware and/or test benches to evaluate thermal system performance, as well as firmware integration Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills, able to identify and surface issues within complex HW/SW systems Proficiency with Python (read/write) and C (read) Preferred: Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, CAN tools (PCAN, CANape, CANalyzer), and data acquisition (DAQ) systems Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally, work hands‑on, and execute on open‑ended projects in a fast‑paced, resource‑constrained environment Benefits Compensation and Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full‑time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Aetna PPO and HSA plans – 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family‑building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both with options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid Health Savings Account (HSA) Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays Back‑up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $112,000 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
