What to Expect We are looking for a motivated Test Engineer to join the Safety Architecture team within Tesla Energy. In this role, you will be at the forefront of test planning, execution, and data analysis for our battery energy storage system products, with a significant portion of your time spent in the field supporting real-world test deployments. What You’ll Do Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for a variety of thermal abuse scenarios including thermal runaway and/or large‑scale battery fires Set up and operate data acquisition systems and various instrumentation tools for thermal safety testing Conduct hands‑on execution of tests in field environments, collaborating with design engineers and field technicians to ensure seamless integration and troubleshooting Perform detailed data analysis using programming tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or R) to interpret test results, identify failure modes, and generate reports with actionable insights for product improvements Adhere to and enforce rigorous test safety protocols, including high‑voltage handling and hazardous material handling Document test procedures in a clear and reproducible manner, contributing to continuous improvement of Tesla’s testing methodologies Travel frequently (up to 50% of the time) to field sites for test support, commissioning, and validation of Energy products in real‑world installations What You’ll Bring Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience 3+ years of experience in test planning and execution with a preference for experience related to batteries, high‑voltage systems, or fire testing Hands‑on experience with data acquisition systems, instrumentation, and test equipment in lab and field settings Strong proficiency in programming for data analysis and automation Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently in fast‑paced, high‑stakes environments Willingness to be hands‑on and physically active in the field, including working in varying weather conditions Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and present technical findings with clarity Knowledge of thermal safety modeling tools is a plus Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full‑time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Aetna PPO and HSA plans – 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family‑building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Account) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays Back‑up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $112,000 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits.
