Your Impact The OSP Field Engineer provides training and supportive engineering services through highly detailed collection of telecommunications information from the job site. This position requires working knowledge in all technical aspects of fiber networks. The successful candidate validates existing field design and layout of the telecommunications network, including aerial, buried and underground fiber network design, underground conduit, handhole, building entrance, and riser facilities. May serve as an informal lead to more junior staff from time to time. Core Responsibilities Identify, photograph, & document detailed information of required facilities, including cables, poles, terminals, pedestals, handholes, & other outside plant infrastructure. Capture accurate measurements of attachment heights, span distances, utility structures, and distances from existing/proposed OSP facilities to centerlines, property lines, and curb lines. Identify power and communication facilities and ownership on utility poles. Record bonding, grounding, guying, and anchor information. Deliver detailed field notes & photographs to the engineering team. Identify relevant obstructions to fiber placement and provide proposed mitigation strategy. Understand OSP construction techniques. Read and understand digital GIS maps, conduit records, and layout drawings. Utilize tools such as measuring wheels, height sticks, pull finder, GPS devices, MH/HH hooks, & laser rangefinder. Use electronic devices (iPad, iPhone, laptop, file sharing, email, etc.). Core Experience 3+ years of experience in the fiber‑optic/telecommunications/telecom construction industry. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Knowledge of outside plant activities (Fiber Cable Design, Pole Line Construction, Conduit System design) and make‑ready issues. Knowledge of obtaining right‑of‑ways and easements where required, and ability to make appropriate notations on field notes for desktop teams. Ability to read and understand as‑built prints, identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, and select routing of lines and equipment for projects. Familiar with GIS (Geographic Information Systems), ESRI, and shapefile functionality. Identify different types of utilities, potential conflicts, and violations based on regulatory standards (RUS, NESC, GO95, NEC, etc.). Experienced in Microsoft Office Suite. Working knowledge of AutoCAD (a plus). Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation with acceptable record; able to pass pre‑employment drug screen and background check. Good organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Physical Demands Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Extensive travel and ability to work on site for numerous projects in various states. Work outdoors 95% of the time. Travel up to 100% of the time, by air or vehicle; may require overnight stays up to two weeks at a time. Travel with short notice. Follow OSHA/State/Local Safety Standards. Walk up to 3 miles per day on terrain such as gravel, pavement, grass, etc. Work in poor weather conditions such as heat, snow, rain, or wind. Work safely, with or without supervision. Compensation & Benefits Base Pay Range: $24 USD - $29 USD. At Pearce, we are committed to fair and transparent pay practices.
